Biomedical Technician II

The Biomedical Technician role is designed to operate at the intersection of biomedical equipment support, cybersecurity, and information technology, ensuring safe, compliant, and secure operation of medical devices across the institution. This position functions both as a Biomedical Equipment Technician and as a clinical engineering liaison to Cybersecurity and Information Technology-Information Services teams.
The Biomedical Technician contributes directly to this mission by supporting complex, computerized, and networked medical systems that enable high-quality patient care, clinical operations, and research activities across the main hospital campus.

The ideal candidate for the Biomedical Technician role brings a strong foundation in biomedical engineering/technology or electronic engineering, combined with hands-on experience supporting medical equipment in a regulated healthcare environment. Preferred candidates have hospital-based experience, exposure to medical device networking and vulnerability management, and certifications such as CompTIA A+. The Biomedical Technician demonstrates technical depth, adaptability to emerging technologies, and the ability to collaborate across clinical, technical, and cybersecurity teams.
Minimum salary $33.17/hour - Midpoint $41.35/hour - Maximum $49.52/hour, based on a 40-hour work week.
Work location is the main hospital campus, 100% onsite.

Responsibilities
Biomedical Equipment & Clinical Engineering Support

Perform analysis, maintenance, calibration, installation, upgrades, and repair of general patient medical, scientific, physiological monitoring, surgical, and other electronic equipment
Conduct electrical safety inspections and component-level troubleshooting for institutional medical equipment
Provide on-call technical support after normal working hours on a rotational basis
Support pre-purchase evaluations, incident investigations, and project management for defined medical equipment
Coordinate internal and external vendor support to ensure timely completion of equipment service and contract compliance

Cybersecurity, Networking & Vulnerability Management

Support the medical device security program and vulnerability management processes
Perform network-related support for repair, maintenance, and project activities on wired and wireless medical systems
Summarize cybersecurity threats and risks, mitigations, compensating controls, and network exposure clearly and completely
Prioritize policies and standards related to cybersecurity measures and endpoint security tools
Coordinate medical device risk analysis and remediation aligned with governance and compliance requirements

Technical Documentation & Compliance

Maintain detailed documentation of security procedures, workflows, and technical processes
Demonstrate understanding of privacy, legal, and regulatory requirements in a higher-education healthcare environment
Apply regulatory guidelines and hospital policies governing biomedical equipment support operations

Customer Communication & Training

Communicate with clinical users to obtain equipment access, resolve issues, and minimize equipment downtime
Provide nursing in-services on equipment operation to reduce user error and improve patient care quality
Communicate equipment repair status and cybersecurity mitigation activities through conversations and email
Deliver customer-focused technical support within assigned project or assignment timelines

EDUCATION
  • Required: Associate's Degree Biomedical Technology (BMET) or Electronic Engineering.
  • Preferred: Associate's of Applied Science degree in Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS), Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Technology (BMET) or Electronic Engineering.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 2 years Biomedical Technology experience. or
  • Required: With preferred degree, no experience required.
  • May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
  • Preferred: At least 2 years experience in a hospital setting, networking, medical device vulnerability management experience.
  • Preferred Certification: COMP TIA, A++

Required: On-call support participation, ability to support complex networked medical equipment, demonstrated technical competency, customer communication skills, and ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
