Plan & Spec Sales Representative
The Plan & Spec Sales Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with mechanical contractors, owners, developers, facility managers, and other construction industry stakeholders to drive sales opportunities for the company's represented HVAC and mechanical equipment manufacturers.
This position focuses on identifying project opportunities, building customer relationships, tracking projects through the construction cycle, and supporting customers throughout the sales process. Technical engineering support is provided by the company's engineering and applications team, allowing the Sales Representative to focus on business development and customer engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with mechanical contractors, owners, developers, facility managers, and key industry contacts.
- Conduct regular customer visits to identify upcoming projects and sales opportunities.
- Generate new business while maintaining existing customer relationships.
- Promote represented manufacturers and product offerings throughout the assigned territory.
- Attend industry events, trade association meetings, and networking functions.
Project Development & Sales
- Identify and track commercial construction and renovation projects from concept through completion.
- Work with customers to understand project requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Coordinate with internal engineering, estimating, service, and project support teams to deliver customer solutions.
- Support the bidding and procurement process by ensuring customers receive timely information and assistance.
- Monitor project status and maintain visibility on project opportunities.
Customer Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts.
- Respond to customer inquiries and coordinate resources needed to support customer requests.
- Assist customers in navigating equipment selection, lead times, and project requirements.
- Maintain strong customer satisfaction and long-term relationships.
Sales Administration
- Maintain accurate customer and project information within the company CRM system.
- Prepare sales activity reports and pipeline updates.
- Track opportunities and forecast future business activity.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of outside sales, business development, construction industry, HVAC, mechanical equipment, or related experience.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout assigned territory.
Preferred
- Experience selling to mechanical contractors, building owners, or commercial construction customers.
- HVAC, mechanical systems, or construction industry experience.
- Understanding of commercial construction project cycles.
- Experience working for a manufacturer's representative, distributor, contractor, or related industry.
