Mechanic

Job Title: Landscape Mechanic – Small Engine
Department: Fleet / Operations
Reports To: Shop or Branch Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Position Summary:

The Landscape Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engine and landscape equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This includes weed eaters, blowers, edgers, push mowers, zero-turn tractors, and more. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and able to maintain accurate equipment records and perform basic vehicle maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair a variety of small landscape equipment (2-stroke and 4-stroke engines).
• Perform routine maintenance and service on blowers, edgers, weed eaters, push mowers, and zero-turn tractors.
• Conduct basic vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, brake replacement, air filters, and tire servicing.
• Maintain equipment inventory and database records accurately.
• Utilize computer systems to look up parts, service manuals, and repair guides.
• Ensure timely and cost-effective repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
• Assist in welding and fabrication repairs (if applicable).
• Keep shop area clean, safe, and organized.
• Communicate with team members regarding equipment needs and issues.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of hands-on experience working with small engines and landscape equipment.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Manufacturer training or certification is a plus.
• Basic understanding of automotive maintenance.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to manage tasks independently.
• Computer literacy required (internet searches, parts lookups, manuals).
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily shop-based with some outdoor work.
• Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor.
