Network Engineer
- The Network Engineer will be responsible for three key functions of the Technology Operations organization. This includes operationalizing new hardware, new services, and value-add features to Optimum Business' production network, maintaining the network infrastructure to ensure Optimum Business can continue to provide a stable and feature-rich network to our customers and provides network support to Fulfillment and Operations.
- The Network Engineer works closely with the Development team to incorporate new hardware and services into the network.
- Responsible for providing engineering guidelines to Fulfillment and Operations to roll out new hardware and services to our customers.
- For new services, the engineer will also be responsible for working with the Application Support team to capture the new product requirements in CMBD systems and defining the parameters needed for service activation.
- Responsible for documenting test results, deployment procedures and standards.
- In addition to a technical role, the candidate must be comfortable project managing and coordinating with other teams on their contributing deliverables to ensure the timely roll out of new services into production.
- The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the network is maintained and capable of providing services to our customers.
- Responsible for regularly validating software updates, testing replacement hardware for devices that are end-of-life, managing network resources such as IP addresses and VLANs. The objective is to ensure that Fulfillment has the resources to provision services to our customers and to provide a stable network environment for Operations to monitor.
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience
- Experience working in a Service Provider environment
- Experience with routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, ISIS). CCNP or equivalent.
- Knowledge of MPLS (L2VPN and L3VPN)
- Understanding of Metro Ethernet services. CECP2.0 Certification a plus
- Knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6. Understanding of ARIN rules and guidelines for ISP desired
- Scripting languages a plus. (BASH, Python, PHP, etc.).
- Good writing and documentation skills. Experience writing Engineering guidelines and procedures.
- A background in Systems Integration and Element Management Systems a plus
- Familiarity of fiber optic technology and transport networks
- Good Interpersonal Skills. Must be able to work in both an individual and team capacity.
- Project Management skills a plus
- Flexible working hours, 24 hours on call systems support. Ability to work during maintenance windows
