Director of Health and Safety
The Director of Health and Safety will report directly to the Vice President of HSEQ. The Director will be responsible for the overall development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective Health and Safety (H&S) program. This position leads, champions, and enhances the health and safety culture of the business to achieve our goal of Never Harm and ensures that the company’s operations comply with legislative and corporate audit requirements. The Director provides leadership to their organization and builds a high-performing team through employee development and performance management. This role will be located in The Woodlands, TX or Broussard, LA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of the safety leadership team, set annual objectives for the improvement of Health and Safety standards and systems, and promote initiatives designed to achieve these objectives
Implement a consistent and standardized approach to all Health and Safety activities across all projects
Monitor and report on Health and Safety performance, developing recovery plans as needed
Develop and lead a competent and professional Health and Safety operational team capable of delivering the company’s requirements
Operate as a member of the executive leadership team and actively contribute to strategic planning and annual budget.
Lead and provide a consistent focal point for all Health and Safety activities
Maintain all safety records, analyze trends, report statistics, and manage both noncompliance issues and areas of excellence
Oversee and manage near misses, hazard/incident investigations, and audits to identify trends, address areas for improvement, and ensure lessons learned are integrated into SMJV systems and processes
Provide input to work-winning activities as required and ensure appropriate Health and Safety support is available
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation in the provinces where the company operates, as well as internal standards and policies, and act as the point of contact for regulatory matters
Serve as the key point of contact with clients and represent SMJV at external forums, conferences, and professional association events
Benchmark SMJV performance and drive excellence in Health and Safety standards
Lead and coach all employees in the interpretation and implementation of Health and Safety policies and procedures
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 12-15 years of experience in Health and Safety within industrial environments, including pipeline and associated facilities
Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior leadership role
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Demonstrated commitment to the Never Harm culture
Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships
Strong communication skills
Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities
Deep understanding of Health and Safety regulations, including federal and state laws. OSHA, FMCSA, FERC, etc.
Experience in program development and delivery, including research, analysis, and implementation
Familiarity with ISO-accredited management systems an asset
Background in field and operations environments, preferably within oil and gas industrial and pipeline construction
Effective problem-solving abilities and the capacity to interpret complex rules and regulations
Proven ability to assimilate information quickly and provide insight into impacts and opportunities
A willingness to mentor and support team members
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is office-based and can be located at one of our core offices in Broussard, LA or The Woodlands, TX.

The Director of Health & Safety reports to the VP, HSE.
