Test Engineer (Functional)

JOB TITLE: Dallas – Functional Test Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Test Engineering

REPORTS TO: Test Manager

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION:

Provide test solutions that meet or exceed all customer requirements while being cost effective and continuously improving the quality and reliability of product delivered. Finding ways within the organization and test department to eliminate waste and provide higher levels of measureable efficiency.

Responsible for providing support and debug for test processes on the production floor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

• Develop test plans and procedures for products as required.
• Review contracts and purchase orders for test requirements.
• Design and implement use of test fixturing and jigs.
• Provide supervision to test technician and test operators.
• Train Test Technicians and Operators in debug techniques as well as training in tester/unit operation.
• Analyze test procedures and programs to assign standard test times to be used on quotes and production.
• Perform failure analysis as necessary.
• Interface with customers and suppliers as necessary to answer and resolve questions or concerns related to test.
• Work hands on with testing as necessary to satisfy delivery commitments.
• Assist Process and Manufacturing Engineering as necessary.
• Plan, design, develop, and debug automated and manual test systems as required.
• Be able to analyze and work with test programs, formats, and protocols including GPIB, RS232, JTAG, LabView, Agile, and other industry common platforms.
• Identifies customer needs by working closely with Sales to support new Customer development and startup as well as working on test requirements, customer test strategies, tools and equipment required and specific training to meet Customer requirements (Functional testers).
• Supports Test Process on the Production floor by: increasing test process reliability, analyzing tester performance, dealing with line returns, monitoring visual defects and electrical defects, ensuring product tester Engineering Change Orders are incorporated.
• Ensures product flow through Functional Test area by: eliminating False Fails, debugging product by identifying defects, continuously improving product flow with real time process feedback, and supporting technician and operator technical questions.
• Understands device programming as well as helping determine if parts can be programmed in-circuit.
• Establishes tester maintenance procedures and schedules. Maintains tester documentation including BOMs and drawings, trouble shoots testers and performs necessary repairs.
• Interfaces with customer on reliability and test coverage.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field from an accredited school.
• Must pass and maintain CIT certification for IPC-A-610 standard

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFFERED:

• Experience with functional test development.
• Able to work as a member of a group in addition to working independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must be able to walk, sit, and/or stand for extended periods of time. Candidate must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
