Pharmacy Technician
Job Title:Pharmacy Technician Job Description: Role Overview:The Pharmacy Technician plays a pivotal role in expediting prescription processing by efficiently initiating essential procedures. This position demands strong organizational skills and the development of an efficient workflow system to ensure the seamless filling of prescriptions. Key Responsibilities: Prescription Processing:The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for streamlining the prescription filling process, ensuring its efficiency. Pharmacy Duties: Retrieve medications from stock. Count, measure, or blend pharmaceuticals. Safely package and label products. Receive new prescriptions from customers and verify patient and prescriber information. Manage incoming phone calls, directing them to pharmacists as needed. Retrieve original prescriptions from pharmacy files for clarification. Prepare labels for both new and refill prescriptions, including computer-generated labels when applicable. Assist customers with prescription pick-up, cash transactions, and pharmacist notifications. Additional Functions:In addition to prescription filling, the Registered Pharmacy Technician is involved in the following non-prescription-related tasks: Complete and process third-party documents. Organize prescription books and new prescriptions. Maintain patient profiles. Assemble prescription vials. Manage incoming orders, ensuring accuracy, pricing, and shelf life compliance. Stock pharmacy shelves and refrigerators as needed. Monitor and remove outdated items. Maintain cleanliness in the pharmacy workspace and premises. Requirements Prior knowledge of Pioneer Pharmacy System preferred, but not required At least 2 years of experience in a busy retail setting preferred Duties to include any other task as may be assigned by the supervising pharmacist. Prohibited Duties: The Registered Pharmacy Technician is not authorized to perform the following tasks: 1.Receive new verbal prescriptions or medication orders. Handle medication changes or clarifications. Enter or access the pharmacy without a pharmacist on duty. Exercise discretion or independent professional judgment. Perform Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR). Execute technician duties without pharmacist supervision. Override clinical alerts without pharmacist notification. Monitor prescription usage. Provide patient counseling. Conduct a final verification of dosage and/or directions. Interpret prescriptions or medication orders for therapeutic acceptability.
