Job Summary

FBC Odem is a Southern Baptist church serving a small, growing community in the Texas Coastal Bend.

· We are seeking a Pastor to serve as the spiritual leader of our church

· We seek a Pastor with a heart for intergenerational ministry, able to connect with youth, young families, and seniors alike

· We desire a shepherd who will embrace our church’s traditional Baptist roots while leading us in fresh outreach to our growing community

· We are looking for a Pastor who is visible in our small town, builds relationships, and engages the unchurched with the gospel

· We seek a Pastor who will lead in the spiritual life and growth of the church family, including preaching, teaching and discipleship that is consistent with the principles of the Baptist Faith and Message

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Regularly deliver sermons and teachings based on the Bible to educate, inspire, and equip church members to know and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to reach lost souls

2. Prepare for and conduct services including Sunday worship, baptisms, the Lord’s Supper and other services

3. Develop and communicate a vision for the church’s future, in collaboration with church leaders

4. Work with church leadership to develop strategic plans for outreach and growth

5. Oversee the curriculum and teaching programs utilized in all classes to ensure it teaches Christian doctrine and meets with The Baptist Faith and Message, for Sunday School, Mission Kids, youth and adult studies

6. Facilitate the church business meetings and participate in Deacon meetings

7. Work with church committees and leaders to implement the church’s vision and mission

8. Oversee and collaborate with Deacons on the operational aspects of the church, including finances, staff management and development and organizational strategy

9. Provide support, counseling, and guidance to individuals within the congregation during times of need, such as illness, grief, or personal crisis

10. Encourage spiritual growth and maturity among church members through personal mentoring, discipleship programs, and small group leadership

11. Partner with, lead, encourage and develop the Deacon body of the church

12. Engage in and leads prayer for the congregation

13. Represent the church in the broader community and participates in community events, services, and outreach

Qualifications & Expectations

1. Meets Biblical qualifications for pastor found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9 and 1 Peter 5:2-4

2. Affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and holds to the inerrancy and authority of Scripture

3. Must have a clear testimony of saving faith in Jesus Christ

4. Seminary degree with at least five years of pastoral ministry preferred

5. The Pastor shall have the ability, maturity, and education to meet the needs of the church body.

6. Must be ordained to the Gospel Ministry by a Southern Baptist Church

7. Must be a constructive leader with a shepherd’s heart

8. Must be an effective communicator

9. Must be community focused

10. The Pastor and his family must reside in the FBC Odem parsonage and unite with the church as members

11. Must be able to pass a criminal background check

12. The Pastor must establish a schedule, as agreed upon by the Deacons, that provides his availability in the church office

Compensation and Benefits

1. Salary – Negotiable based upon experience

2. Housing – Parsonage plus utilities provided
