Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine

Licenses / Certifications :

• Current state medical license
• Current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency license
• Staff privileges at all hospitals covered
• Board certified or eligible
• Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification

Experience / Knowledge / Skills :

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Articulate and active listener
• Timely issue resolution within the system

Principal Accountabilities :

• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds when hospitalist service is primary or in co-management role
• Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response calls as per campus protocol
• Provide admission services for ED, transfers, and emergent cases per schedule
• Offer co-management and consultative services within privileges scope
• Accept transfers with proper handoff communication
• Handle transfer center calls for non-critical patients
• Evaluate admitted patients promptly per bylaws
• Follow hospital policies and bylaws
• Sign out patients transitioning to post-acute care
• Provide internal sign-out at care transitions
• Prescribe narcotics for up to 72 hours for appropriate patients
• Participate in staff education when requested
• Respond promptly to clinical queries
• Document histories and physicals within 12 hours
• Complete discharge summaries within 48 hours
• Stay updated on regulatory guidelines
• Provide post-discharge home health coverage as appropriate
• Encourage resource utilization within network
• Respond timely to pages and calls from staff
• Provide additional coverage during emergencies/disasters
• Engage in continuing education and maintain ACLS certification
• Direct patient care via consult orders
• Collaborate with care team for patient plans
• Communicate effectively with team and families
• Adhere to best practices and quality initiatives
• Work with risk managers and case managers on issues
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy policies
• Ensure safe, efficient care within policies and budgets
• Support professional growth and mentorship
• Model compassionate, personalized care standards
• Perform other duties as assigned
