Staff Accountant

As a Staff Accountant at Cadence McShane Construction, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our accounting operations and contributing to the continued financial excellence of our projects. In this role, you’ll manage critical accounting functions, support process improvements, and collaborate closely with others to ensure accurate financial reporting. For 40 years, Cadence McShane Construction Company has been a trusted name in the industry. Based in Plano, TX, with regional offices in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, the company delivers comprehensive general construction, design/build, and construction management services for commercial, education, multifamily, industrial, and senior living construction.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the monthly close process by preparing accurate journal entries and reconciling selected balance sheet accounts.
• Manage cash transactions and prepare monthly bank reconciliations in a timely manner for review by the Controller.
• Ensure alignment between job cost data and the general ledger, as well as reconciling AR/AP aging reports.
• Research outstanding accounts payable invoices and collaborate with the project accounting team to resolve credits as needed.
• Calculate and record monthly insurance and job cost allocations.
• Maintain the fixed asset roll forward schedule and record depreciation expense.
• Support external audits and participate in special projects as required.
• Contribute to the implementation of new software systems and/or enhancements to accounting processes.
• Provide assistance to the project accounting team as necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and minimum 3 years’ related experience.
• Construction industry experience and/or audit background is a plus.
• Thorough and accurate attention to detail.
• Intermediate Excel skills required.
• Sage, Timberline, or other Accounting software experience a plus.
• Exhibits critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
