A Taste of What You'll Do

Are you a dynamic and strategic leader with a passion for driving sales and building strong business relationships? Gallo is seeking a Business Development Manager to join our team, responsible for managing distributor sales to the On-Premise channel across a pre-defined territory. In this pivotal role, you will be the Gallo brand ambassador, ensuring the successful execution of our sales plan and maximizing revenue contributions.

As a Business Development Manager, you will spend 40% of your time interfacing with the winery, focusing on field pricing development and aligning your efforts with the biggest sales opportunities. The remaining 60% will be dedicated to distributor and field execution, collaborating closely with distributor management to ensure the seamless implementation of sales plans and national promotions. Your strategic decisions and ability to pivot resources based on market dynamics and business performance will be key to your success.

You will also play a crucial role in mentoring and developing talent within the distributor network, ensuring a robust pipeline for future growth. This includes conducting sales training, product tastings, and supporting the career development of Market Development Managers. Your ability to gather and analyze market intelligence, present pricing and forecasting plans, and coordinate new product launches will be essential in driving our business forward.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of Gallo winery sales, marketing, or affiliated or non-affiliated distributor sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor’s degree plus 6 years of wine or spirits sales, marketing, restaurant/hospitality, or distributor experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 8 years of Gallo Winery sales, marketing, or affiliated or non-affiliated distributor sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 10 years of wine or spirits sales, marketing, restaurant/hospitality or distributor experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Candidate is required to have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record and reliable vehicle (if applicable) at the time of hire. This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving. If needed, candidate must obtain the appropriate state driver’s license based on the position’s location within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required to obtain liquor license as required by state/locality.
  • Required to travel by air and automobile up to 50% during the course of business.
  • Required to see, taste, and smell wine and perform product tastings as part of job functions.
  • Experience demonstrating strong leadership selling, time management, public speaking skills.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How You'll Stand Out

  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience to include a prior rotation as a Portfolio Consultant, Business Development Manager, Program Manager Sales-LDP, Business Intelligence Manager or Account Manager 2; OR Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of external alcohol sales experience to include on-premise experience.
  • Direct managerial/supervisory experience with sales, retail, or on-premise employees (e.g. District Manager, Area Manager, State Manager, Field Marketing manager, etc.)
  • Experience with selling or marketing Gallo products.

  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.   • This position will be based in the location(s) specified in the job posting and requires regular travel within your assigned territory. Occasional travel to company sites may be required as needed.
