Plant Nursery Sales Associate

Job Description

Responsible for assisting customers by locating plants and ringing up basic transactions using a POS system, maintaining plant health with watering, general cleanliness of nursery, communicating plant health issues to manager/assistant manager, assisting with educational events and tours, stocking plant tables, communicating customer grievances to the manager, unloading plant delivery trucks, occasionally taking inventory, assisting with general plant and permanent garden bed maintenance duties such as pruning, fertilizing, and weeding.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Unload plants by hand using proper lifting techniques and/or equipment. Need to be able to lift 50 lbs

• Regularly move and rearrange plants to accommodate new arrivals, provide proper sunlight and watering

• Must have a working knowledge of using a point-of-sales system (POS)

• Provide friendly and efficient customer service to patrons shopping in the plant nursery

• Rely on knowledge and expertise to assist customers with plant selection and how to properly care for and maintain healthy plant material

• Provide recommendations to customers for additional products (soil or fertilizer)

• Assist in maintaining plant nursery organization to ensure effective merchandising and a safe and welcoming shopping environment

• Maintain the health and overall appearance of plant material to minimize inventory loss and damage

• Perform deadheading, pruning, regular watering, and rearranging of plants to optimize sun/shade locations

• Communicate regularly with the nursery manager regarding issues of plant health

• Basic knowledge of a wide variety of plant materials, local growing conditions, plant pests and diseases, general care, and planting techniques

• May Be Exposed to Hazards Including - Drafts, temperature changes, wet and uneven surfaces during adverse weather and seasonal conditions, water, and dirt due to the continuous care of plant material, Tools with sharp edges, dust from mulch yard, and organic fertilizers

Applicants must be able to

• Have a flexible schedule, morning or afternoon availability any day of the week

• Stand for 8 hour shifts

• Lift up to 50 lbs 

• Work in an ALL-WEATHER environment

Requirements 

• Bi-lingual, Spanish (preferred)

• Responsible, dependable, punctual

• Basic plant knowledge (preferred)

• Ability to commute

• 16+ years of age

• Ability to work in an all-weather environment

• Stand for 8 hour shifts

• Lift up to 50 lbs 

Job Type: Part-time/full-time, seasonal 

Pay rate: $12-14/hourly
