Java Backend Software Engineer II - Databricks / PySpark / AWS
Job Description
Join one of the world's most innovative financial institutions and help shape the future of client data and intelligence. At JPMorganChase, we invest in our engineers — giving you access to cutting-edge tools, modern cloud infrastructure, and a collaborative culture where your contributions directly impact how we serve clients globally.
As a Software Engineer II at JPMorganChase within the Client 360 team in the Commercial & Investment Bank, you will design and develop scalable backend systems that unify and surface critical client data across the firm. This is an opportunity to grow your engineering craft while solving complex, high-impact problems in a fast-paced financial technology environment.
The Client 360 team is focused on delivering a unified view of client relationships across the Commercial & Investment Bank. You will contribute to a platform that aggregates, processes, and delivers data at scale — enabling smarter decisions and stronger client outcomes across the firm.
Job responsibilities
- Design and develop robust, scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Python to support client data platforms
- Build and optimize data pipelines using PySpark and Databricks to process large volumes of structured and unstructured financial data
- Deploy and manage cloud-based infrastructure and services on AWS, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, product, and analytics to deliver end-to-end solutions
- Integrate and leverage AI-powered developer tools to accelerate development workflows and improve code quality
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture planning sessions
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and performance of backend systems
- Contribute to engineering best practices, documentation, and continuous improvement of the software development lifecycle
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience
- Proficiency in Java and/or Python for backend application and service development
- Hands-on experience with PySpark and Databricks for large-scale data processing
- Experience building and deploying applications on AWS (e.g., Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, or equivalent services)
- Demonstrated experience integrating or working with AI/machine learning models, APIs, or AI-powered tooling within backend systems
- Familiarity with React or similar frontend frameworks to support full-stack collaboration
- Proficiency in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as SQL or Oracle, as well as NoSQL databases
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience working with large language model frameworks or AI orchestration tools (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI APIs, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar) to enhance engineering productivity
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), or infrastructure-as-code practices
- Exposure to agile development methodologies and cross-functional product delivery teams
