Inventory Accountant

We are a growing apparel company with a strong online presence and retail operations seeking a detail-oriented and driven Inventory Accountant to join our accounting team. This role is ideal for a mid-level accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys hands-on work with inventory accounting in a dynamic retail/apparel setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day inventory accounting processes, including inventory costing, valuation, and reconciliation.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Analyze inventory trends, variances, and margins, providing actionable insights to support business decisions.
• Collaborate with operations, merchandising, and supply chain teams to ensure proper inventory controls and accurate reporting.
• Assist with physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and reconciliation to general ledger accounts.
• Support the preparation of financial statements and reports with a focus on inventory-related accounts.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in inventory accounting.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls, particularly as they relate to retail and e-commerce inventory.
• Work closely with the broader accounting team on various ad-hoc projects and month-end close tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CPA candidate a plus).
• 3-6 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to inventory accounting in a retail or apparel environment.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, particularly as it applies to inventory valuation, reserves, and retail-specific accounting issues.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, or similar preferred).
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
• Hard-working with a strong work ethic and a "roll-up-your-sleeves" approach.
• Sharp, intelligent, and inquisitive mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Positive, can-do attitude and a collaborative team player.
• High attention to detail combined with the ability to see the bigger picture.
