Physical Therapy Technician
Under direct supervision of a licensed Therapist, the Physical Therapy Tech shall be responsible for supporting and maintaining a smooth flow of activity on the clinic floor, to include overall cleanliness of the clinic, cleanliness of clinic equipment, ensuring clinic equipment is in working order, and ensuring operations are in compliance with Therapy Partners Group policy and procedures, and HIPAA regulations. The Physical Therapy Tech will work in a team environment and have the ability to complete daily tasks as assigned. The position requires strong customer skills with an ability to maintain friendly and professional relationships with patients and employees as well as completing all other duties as assigned. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
PATIENT CARE DUTIES:
The technician is expected to assist the licensed therapist in providing quality treatment to the patient. These duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Routinely check schedule for checked-in patients and/or the sign-in sheet, notify the treating therapist.
- Prepares treatment table, therapist approved equipment and any other approved modalities for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Prepares patients for therapy treatment by welcoming, comforting, directing and/or assisting into therapy treatment area.
- The technician will notify the treating therapist of any relative comments the patient may make regarding his/her treatment or condition.
- Responsible for following exercise flow sheet, initiating next steps in treatment and keeping the supervising therapist informed of patient’s progression throughout the appointment.
- Assists the treatment of patients by applying ice or heat packs, helping patients onto exercise equipment, monitoring motion; responding to timers and removing modalities from the patient; performing prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques as requested by supervising therapist.
- Educates patients by demonstrating proper use of equipment and exercise routines.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Provides equipment and supplies by sterilizing and delivering equipment and supplies to treatment area; positioning equipment for therapist access; positioning patient on equipment.
- Ensures operation of physical therapy equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
- Reports any issues needing resolution to Physical Therapists.
The technician is responsible for assisting in the office with all duties that the Patient Care Coordinator sees fit. These include but are not limited to the following:
- Answering the phone appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Accepting and receiving all the necessary information for a new referral.
- Schedule new and current patients properly, effectively and in a timely manner.
- Assist with filing all necessary paperwork and correspondence.
- Assist with faxing therapist correspondence to the proper physician.
- Check-in and effectively explain and issue paperwork to new patients.
- Accept payment from both new and existing patients.
- Call patients to check on when they no show, stop attending and generally need to schedule.
- Open the facility each morning and prepare the facility for the arrival of patients.
- Responsible for washing and dying linens in a timely fashion so that the facility is well-stocked.
- Maintains physical therapy supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies and communicating to person in charge or ordering.
- Routinely check the overall tidiness of the facility to maintain a clean, inviting atmosphere.
- Ensure hot pack machines are full of clean water daily, ice machine is defrosted monthly and ensure cleaning and temperature logs are maintained and completed as instructed.
- Clean treatment mats and equipment with disinfectant after every use.
- Empty and take out trash on a nightly basis.
- Light vacuuming when necessary.
- Enhances physical therapy department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments, is a team player.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office

- Ability to maintain confidential documents.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to communicate complex information in a well thought-out easily understood manner, both orally and in writing in a variety of settings and styles.
- Ability to communicate in an honest, direct, and professional manner, relating well to others to build rapport and effective relationships.
- Ability to demonstrate active listening by asking clarifying questions, identify and share relevant information and solicit feedback from others and give and receive feedback objectively.

Education : High School diploma or equivalent.
College degree in a related health field preferred.
Minimum age of 18 years Experience : Prior experience in customer service Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Some sitting. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, mouse, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and present reports. Travel is required if Per Diem, otherwise, no travel is required for permanent Physical Therapy Technicians.
