Sr HR Communications Strategist Location San Antonio, TX : Description

This advanced individual contributor position works independently to execute the creative development, planning and strategic delivery of internal and employee-focused external communications as a member of the HR Communications team. This role requires internal communications expertise and advanced writing/editing ability, as well as project management and innovative content creation to engage Valero's workforce and elevate understanding for our benefits, programs and team-driven culture. This role is moderately visible; the ideal candidate is a natural consensus-builder who initiates strategic messaging and responds to communications needs with ease. With support from the HR Manager, this position takes ownership of visual and written communications projects of all sizes, and is accountable for timely delivery of strategic messaging for all stakeholders. A curious and creative business mind is ideal for this role, along with a passion for employee engagement and creative responses that serve both workforce and company objectives. This role is responsible for generating clear and innovative ideas that educate, promote and engage Valero's workforce, and promote our global brand and culture to strategic audiences.

  • Collaborates with HR Communications manager to execute internal communications initiatives and coordinate cross-department efforts to ensure alignment with company business objectives.
  • Provides responsive, knowledgeable, professional, trusted HR Communications support to HR and other stakeholders across the company requesting employee-focused communications assistance.
  • Collaborates with HR Communications manager to develop/execute strategic plans, manage HR content calendars and facilitate quality communication for all HR stakeholders, including any necessary production or design support, writing, editing or leadership messaging.
  • Advises HR teams on the most effective options for workforce recruitment and brand promotion, internal and external engagement messaging, and project management for digital and print deliverables.
  • Strategizes and drives development of creative content, updates and edits for Valero.com/Careers site, including daily execution of content management system requirements and regular updating of published content to ensure accuracy and maintain high engagement.
  • Streamlines and manages internal communications requests and fulfillment processes, including requests for intermittent editing, advising and creation of intranet content for increased employee engagement and accessibility to information.
  • Oversees and creates content for internal audiences, using visual and written communication strategies for employee engagement, leadership messaging, promotion of benefits and health programs and recruitment marketing.
  • Creates clear and concise employee awareness communications, portal content, social media content, video scripts, recruitment marketing and educational content for internal and workforce-focused external audiences. Develops and edits bilingual versions, as needed (mainly English, Spanish and French).
  • Ensures consistent messaging for employee-facing projects across diverse audiences, promoting company workforce initiatives and objectives, cultural values, achievements, recruitment brand, inclusion efforts and benefits/services.
  • Plans, initiates and ensures quality HR social media content that meets or exceeds HR social media objectives; drives alignment, creation and scheduling of dynamic content for Valero's employer-focused social media channels (i.e., LinkedIn, Intern Instagram, Glassdoor, Indeed).
  • Manages video and photography projects from pre-production through post-production, overseeing schedules, budgets, on-site action and logistics.
  • Creates and manages internal digital billboards content, and serves as writer/developer for external and internal reports, video concepts and other communications projects as needed.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for Corporate Communications and field HR teams to ensure messaging consistency and delivery of high-quality, effective communications content.
  • Provides creative guidance and messaging support for other members of the HR Communications team, as needed. Advises HR Communications leadership on project needs and development timelines.
  • Handles production logistics and editing of multimedia content, ensuring consistent messaging across internal and external platforms.
  • Working at the direction of HR Communications management, develops and consults on targeted communications campaigns to align project goals with customer/stakeholder objectives, and enhance collaboration and engagement.
  • Provides video and photography post-production support by reviewing footage and coordinating with editors to ensure final products meet expectations and creative vision.
  • Develops rapid responses to maintain control of the narrative during crisis situations, supporting effective crisis communication efforts.
  • This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or higher-level degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the following area(s): written communications, creative writing, internal or corporate communications and/or digital communications required.
  • Bachelor's or higher-level degree - in Strategic Communications, Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and/or related field preferred
  • Bilingual communications skills preferred.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.
