System Payroll Director

Job Summary Responsible for directing the payroll department. Typically reports to VP - Finance. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelors Degree required Licenses/Certifications: CPP, Certified Payroll Professional Experience/ Knowledge/ Skills: - Minimum 10 years payroll experience with increasing responsibility and growth in position
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of supervisory experience
- Recent experience in a large organization (greater than 5,000 employees)
- Knowledge of Federal and State payroll tax regulations, FLSA, defined contribution plans
- Extensive knowledge of MS office required
- Strong problem solving and customer service skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Principal Accountabilities - Manage the overall corporate payroll functions including, payroll processing, payroll taxes, reviewing and revising policies and procedures as well as internal controls, system review and upgrade.
- Oversee the control structure of the payroll area to ensure payroll is processed timely and accurately and appropriate taxes are deducted and reported.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations.
- Maintain strong relationships between HR Benefits, Compensation, Accounting, Business Finance, Tax, Information Systems and Leaders to ensure that their information needs and payroll processes are aligned for maximum effectiveness.
- Lead team through legal entity acquisitions, divestitures, system implementations, and other system initiatives such that implementations have minimum, if any, issues and no compliance failures.
- Oversee various audits, such as employment tax audits and internal audits and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Responsible for mentoring, coaching and training the payroll team.
- Ensure payroll tax payments are in compliance with applicable federal, state and local tax laws.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
