Production Supervisor, Coatings & Linings - 2nd Shift

The Pipe Finishing Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating activities for crew(s) in the Pipe Finishing production department including industrial coating and cement mortar lining by processing materials or manufacturing products.

  • At the direction of the Fab Shop Manager, prepares daily operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications for Pipe Lining, Coating and Finishing crews.
  • Reviews Pipe Finishing production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization. Formally reports to Maintenance on equipment issues in the form of emails and work requests for equipment repairs.
  • Trains and assists hourly employees as needed to ensure adequate quality and productivity.
  • Resolves employee issues and complaints or submits unresolved matters to Human Resources or Fab Shop Manager for further resolution.
  • At the discretion of the Fab Shop Manager, reviews work orders to estimate worker hours and create schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
  • Determines amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials from purchasing department.
  • Confers with Pipe Finishing crew operators to determine progress of work and to provide information on changes in processing methods received from Fab Shop Manager.
  • Suggests changes to working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of Pipe Finishing crew.
  • Reads customer specification and drawings to determine type of coating, position of holdbacks and other specifications for setting up pipe for Pipe Finishing operations.
  • Oversee repairs or replacement of defective parts.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Performs other tasks as instructed by supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  2. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  3. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before managers or groups of employees.
  4. Must be able to read, understand and interpret pipe drawings and specification boundary sheets.
  5. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  6. Must be able to compute ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
  7. Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  8. Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  9. Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where possibly only limited standardization exists.
  10. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  11. Must be able to operate computer-controlled panels, including reading and interpreting console indicators and gauges.
  12. Must be able to read, understand and interpret part drawings.
  13. Must have knowledge of Manufacturing software, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
  14. Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
  15. Must be able to work well with others and perform duties professionally under pressure.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment operating under high pressures.
  • The environment will consist of being outside when needed, inside when needed and will likely consist of transferring back and forth between in and out as various needs arise.
  • This job will require being active and covering a lot of ground on foot throughout the shift.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud requiring hearing protection.
