Android Privacy Engineer

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience in threat modeling, data anonymization and classification, auditing access to data, and review of requests for data access.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with code review in one or more general purpose languages and software development lifecycle.
- Experience in identity and authentication management.
- Knowledge of Android OS, multi-user platforms, and discovery and connectivity protocols such as Bluetooth, UWB, Wi-Fi, and IoT standards.
- Knowledge of global privacy legislation and ability to articulate it to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Understanding of technical privacy issues (e.g., encryption, permissions).
- Excellent organizational skills.
About the job
The Android Privacy team is responsible for privacy strategy, design reviews, feature development, data governance, and policy across the Android platform. In this role, you will focus specifically on the privacy of cross-device interactions such as unlocking, media-sharing, device-finding, and multi-user interactions. You will work closely with product teams on privacy design throughout the product life cycle. Google's Privacy Engineers work to create amazing products which provide great benefit to consumers while also treating their data respectfully. We work to design products using cutting edge privacy technologies that protect users' privacy by default, provide transparency, and control. We work on protecting users on our platforms and products and in promoting privacy-enhancing design. We range from back-end to front-end experts and work with numerous cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineering, Legal, Policy, Developer Relations) and partners (e.g., device manufacturers, carriers, and third-party developers).
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $133,000-$194,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Play a critical role in Google's product development and launch cycle. Guide product and engineering teams towards privacy-enhancing designs which minimize data collection, respect users, and reduce risk.
- Guide product development through ambiguous problems, leading through influence. Develop internal and external policies to systematize guidance.
- Work closely with key stakeholders across numerous teams to design and deliver next generation privacy-preserving technologies.
- Conduct technical and policy reviews to identify and escalate potential privacy concerns for features launching on both single-user and multi-user devices.
- Manage proactive development of new privacy features and tools throughout the product design and release process. Respond to privacy incidents, if they occur, including collecting information on scope and root cause as well as managing remediation.
