General Responsibility and Function: We are seeking a safety-conscious and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a SHIPPING AND RECEIVING SPECIALIST in our chemical processing facility. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the shipment and receipt of powdered and liquid chemical products, ensuring accuracy, compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and timely movement of goods in and out of the facility. environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive incoming raw materials, chemicals, packaging supplies, and other goods; verify quantity and quality against purchase orders and shipping documents.
- Prepare, package, label, and document outgoing shipments, including hazardous materials, in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company regulations.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, drum lifters, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records in inventory systems (manual and/or digital) to track incoming and outgoing materials.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals in accordance with SDS guidelines and company protocols.
- Inspect shipments for damage or discrepancies and report findings to appropriate departments.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and procurement teams to support smooth workflow and materials availability.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant warehouse space including segregation of chemical types where required.
- Support regular cycle counts and annual inventory audits.
- Follow all safety procedures, including the use of PPE, and participate in ongoing safety training. Support other production or fabrication tasks as needed
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- 2+ years of experience in a shipping/receiving role, preferably within a chemical or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of hazardous material handling and shipping regulations (DOT, OSHA, IATA, etc.).
- Experience with inventory software systems (e.g., ERP or WMS).
- Ability to read and interpret SDS sheets, shipping labels, and technical documents.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet in a warehouse environment.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is based in a chemical manufacturing facility where exposure to hazardous materials, chemical fumes, noise, dust, and fluctuating temperatures is common. The role involves operating forklift equipment in close proximity to chemical processing areas, requiring heightened awareness and strict compliance with safety protocols at all times. Tasks include frequent standing, bending, lifting, and the use of hand and power tools in a physically demanding environment. Additional responsibilities may involve maneuvering drums or containers, climbing ladders, and handling materials that require careful measurement and containment.
Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)-such as chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, face shields, respirators, and protective clothing-is mandatory throughout the shift. The Shipping and Receiving Specialist must remain alert and safety-focused to ensure not only the precise operation of warehouse equipment but also the safe handling and processing of materials within a chemically sensitive environment. Adherence to all environmental, health, and safety regulations is critical to maintaining a secure and compliant workplace.
