CLOSING DATE: 10/06/2025 JOB SUMMARY Perform responsible accounting clerical work involving the maintenance of financial or statistical records; and to provide a variety of clerical supports to department staff. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is entry/journey level clerical accounting work. An Account Clerk works under general supervision and, within a framework of established procedures is expected to perform a variety of clerical accounting duties. During initial training and probationary period, the employee works under immediate supervision. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from professional, accounting or higher level accounting clerical staff. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Essential and other important duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Participate in the preparation of accounts payable, accounts receivable and health related services accounts; maintain and verify account information for a centralized accounting system. Maintain various ledgers, registers and journals according to established account classifications; prepare, maintain and update various records, files and filing systems; research and verify information as necessary. Open and close accounts; prepare billings; receive and process payments; explain billing and other policies to citizens; respond to complaints and inquiries. Audit invoices against purchase orders; research discrepancies; approve for payment and post to the proper account.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (cont’d) Audit various claims and bills for payment; prepare for check writing; input data into computer; prepare and process accounting transfers. Research and answer department questions regarding the status of accounts and payments, the proper coding of transactions and other matters. Prepare a variety of financial statements, cost analyses and statistical reports. Update tax roll changes to current and delinquent tax rolls; calculate new tax levy; reviews accounts activity and determine appropriateness. Other Important Responsibilities and Duties: Provide clerical support to assist designated department staff in the completion of their duties and responsibilities. Order and maintain office supplies and related materials. May maintain work and leave time records. Interpret computer reports. Types, copy, fax and mail a variety of correspondence and reports as directed. Enter and verify a variety of data onto a computer system. May research and calculate accounts for tax suits including court costs, abstracting fees and law enforcement fees. Perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Modern office practices, procedures, methods and computer equipment. Principles and practices of financial record keeping. Basic arithmetic. Clerical accounting and bookkeeping principles and techniques. General procedures related to billing and accounts payable. Ability to: Operate a typewriter, calculator and other common office machines. Maintain variety of records and files including financial and statistical records. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
-making observations
-reading and writing
-performing mathematical calculations
-operating assigned equipment
-communicating with others. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of:
-making sound decisions
-working with numbers
-calculating basic mathematical equations
-demonstrating intellectual capabilities Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
-sitting for extended periods of time
-operating assigned equipment including computers and adding machines.
-Accurately tabulate, record and balance assigned transactions.
-Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Experience and Training Guidelines:

One year of general clerical experience including some accounting or financial record keeping. Training:
