Position Summary:
St. Michael’s Prep is looking for a Staff Accountant to join its Business Office team. This is a full-time, 12-month position on campus. The Staff Accountant provides support to the Business Office by assisting with the School’s accounting functions, including daily cash receipt entry, journal entry preparation, month-end closings, account reconciliations, and other administrative support.
Strong communication skills, the ability to build relationships at all levels, organizational skills, and proficiency in Excel are essential. The Staff Accountant must be detail-oriented, proactive, and demonstrate a high level of accuracy in their work. The candidate must also be discrete with sensitive information. The position reports directly to the Controller.
Essential Job Functions:
- Works with Controller on all accounting functions relating to accounts receivable activities including journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and preparation of accounting schedules as required for external audits.
- Record daily cash and online deposits, including but not limited to after-school programs and facility rentals.
- Prepare monthly credit card payment reconciliations and assist department cardholders with monthly reports.
- Works with FACTS, which currently handles payment plans and incidental charges. Enters all charges and credits and reconciles FACTS database to the school’s general ledger.
- Communicate with families on incidental billing issues, payment issues, and other questions with sensitivity, understanding and customer service orientation.
- Communicates with the Advancement department to ensure timely and accurate recording of contribution and pledge activity.
- Cross-train roles within the Business Office; act as a back-up for Accounts Payable functions.
- Maintains appropriate filing system (paper and digital) to ensure compliance with archiving requirements for Business Office functions.
- Work to continuously improve the School’s accounting, financial reporting and internal control policies and procedures and maximize department utilization of current accounting systems.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
- 3+ years in overall combined accounting and finance experience, nonprofit experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Advanced facility with computer technology and software, including Google Suite and Microsoft Excel.
- Prior experience with Blackbaud FENXT preferred.
