Assistant to the Safety Coordinator

Mortellaro's Nursery LTD is a longstanding, family-owned wholesale plant supplier serving the state of Texas since 1956. Over the years, we have provided quality groundcovers, shrubs, and trees to landscapers and nurseries across the state.

We are seeking an Assistant to the Safety Coordinator to join our team. To be considered, candidates must be proficient in English and Spanish to speak to groups confidently in both languages, and have a willingness to learn proper stretching techniques to assist in maintaining our ongoing Injury Prevention Program. This is a seated clerical position with physical demands which requires routine walking, standing, bending, and lifting objects to aid in maintaining our established programs and policies in an efficient and timely manner.

Responsibilities:

1. Directly responsible to the Safety Coordinator,
2. Entry level position assisting the Safety Coordinator in maintaining the established Safety Program,
3. Translate documents and conversations from English to Spanish frequently,
4. Perform and observe established daily morning stretches with nursery crews,
5. Complete and document weekly emergency eyewash station, shower station, and air compressor inspections,
6. Coordinate, participate in, and document weekly, indoor or outdoor, Injury Prevention Stretching Classes,
7. Prepare, coordinate, and assist in performing semi-monthly safety meetings,
8. Complete and document monthly eyewash bottle, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and powered emergency exit sign inspections,
9. Coordinate, document, and distribute safety related items to eligible employees at established intervals,
10. Complete and document quarterly worksite inspections,
11. Enter field area/nursery regularly to observe proper body mechanics and ensure the execution of established safety policies in accordance with the Safety Program,
12. Deliver and retrieve staff and supplies to and from external establishments,
13. General Housekeeping, and
14. Other safety/nursery related duties to be performed on a rotational basis with supervision at our Schertz and Poteet locations.

Requirements:

1. Work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Depending on the seasonal workload, it may be necessary to work before and/or after the scheduled start and end of day times.
2. Possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.
3. Submit to a Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Report Check.
4. Read, write, speak, and comprehend both English and Spanish fluently.
5. Bilingual public speaking.
6. Able to proficiently operate desktop computer, Microsoft Office, and Apple iPad.
7. Clerical work and active participation in all aspects of the Safety and Injury Prevention Programs, including working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
8. Sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.
9. Lift up to 50 pounds. Assistance will be provided for heavier or bulky items.
10. All applicants who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo and pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
11. Employees, thereafter, will undergo and pass random drug and alcohol testing.
