Location and Work

This position is available remotely, or hybird at either our Emerald Isle, NC or Cleveland, OH offices, with a preference for those available for work during Eastern Time zone hours.

About the Position and Our Team

TransImpact is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead our Data-at-Rest and Data-in-Motion platform strategies. Principal Data Engineers are hands-on contributors that have full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating strategies for their domain of expertise across the entire Product Development organization. They plan and develop solutions concerned with unique and abstract opportunities which have an important impact on highly visible, strategic initiatives. Principal Data Engineers are delegated responsibility for exploring, defining, and selecting solutions during development of novel concepts and unique areas of need regarding how Data is handled in the platform. They are organization-wide mentors and governance chiefs for data strategies, coordinating important programs for the organization in advancing platform capabilities. Principal Data Engineers act as staff specialists, serving as the foremost domain experts in building scalable data solutions via the application of advanced theory, concepts, principles, and processes. They keep abreast of new methods and developments within their domain, while ensuring that they maintain their effectiveness when used in the organization, through the constant development and refinement of platform standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts in implementing data storage and transportation best practices across the entire TransImpact platform.
  • Lead impactful efforts in ensuring Product Development teams build resilient, data-driven solutions that are fault-tolerant, scalable, efficient, maintainable, and manageable, through mentorship and coaching.
  • Lead technical ownership of all Data Engineering standards and initiatives, across multiple platform offerings and complete products.
  • Identify key areas of focus to meet business objectives regarding Data capabilities in the platform, including partnership with Product and Data Science.
  • Contribute as a core member of the Standards Review Board in designing and ensuring the success of constant improvement for delivery and adherence to best practices.
  • Job responsibilities and any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and support our organization’s values.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Experience designing and implementing Data-at-Rest and Data-in-Motion solutions at SaaS organizations, at scale, preferably on an Azure infrastructure within a .NET/Python solution space.
  • Experience designing and implementing distributed data architectures resulting in highly performant data storage, orchestration, and pipeline solutions, ideally for 10+ years.
  • Experience and understanding of Data Engineering best practices, integration patterns, and system tradeoffs, including security and performance.
  • Demonstrable ability to ideate, execute, and complete initiatives that realize specific improvements for a data-driven, SaaS platform.
  • Demonstrable ability to act as a thought leader, championing novel concepts to success through engagement and mentorship’s.
  • Demonstrable ability to act as a peer leader, working with other Principals and people leaders to encourage a culture of innovation and accountability within an Agile environment.
  • Clear communication and documentation skills, both for technical and non-technical audiences.
