Retail Food Safety Mgr I

- PMP certification preferred What is the work? Food Safety / Compliance / Auditing:
- Serves as lead interface / partner on food safety support and guidance with Retail Operations, architects, Own Brand, and Facility Maintenance
- Serves as the lead for facility plan reviews for food safety and sanitation compliance; maintains required NSF or applicable training / certification
- Maintains required professional accreditations
- Completes required administrative reports accurately on time
- Serves as food safety liaison to state-level agencies, and federal-level activities as needed
- Assists Regulatory Affairs in administering / complying with company recalls, with a focus on 100% compliance on Class I recalls
- Assists with regulatory compliance issues at warehouse, transportation, distribution, and Store level as needed
- Provides support in administration of the CFM training program, including maintenance training certification as an approved course instructor
- Provides compliance oversight to sanitation standard operating procedures for Stores, including revisions / updates; ensures corrective actions are implemented to address root causes
- Assists Manager in identifying other food service operations needing assessments and plans for completion
- Knows / follows all safety requirements; strives to maintain a safe work environment
- Oversees completion of / organizes / conducts all HACCP-based food safety assessments of retail Stores based on risk management principles; maintains associated data; analyzes statistics to spot variances and trends that need attention; provides team guidance on follow-up actions
- Organizes / conducts HACCP-based food safety follow-ups for retail Stores based on risk management principles
- Inspects new Store constructions for compliance with food safety planning and design criteria
- Assists Manager in developing HACCP or HACCP-based programs as needed; follows through on department-specific goals
- Leads project teams in developing best practices; assists with cross-functional team initiatives as needed
- Provides input on food safety issues to other team members; serves as lead on projects / top priorities
- Manages / leads food safety consulting and training targeted at senior regional leadership, merchant teams, and operational leadership (including Stores)
- Bachelor's degree in food science or related field
- 5+ years of related experience
- Experience providing / presenting data analyses and trending that impact management decisions and business results
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
- Certification or licensing as a registered environmental health specialist / registered sanitarian (preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge / understanding of HACCP development, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Retail Practices, thermal processing, Code of Federal Regulations, FDA Food Code, Texas Retail Food Establishment Rules, basic statistics, integrated pest management, auditing practices, quality management principles, and quality systems standards
- Knowledge of retail operations-related business principles
- Proficiency in planning and scheduling tools, and MS Office
- Strong verbal / written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Ability to deal with a variety of compliance situations and implement continuous improvement
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects / tasks; adaptability
- Ability to manage projects as assigned from conception through implementation
- Ability to work independently within area of expertise
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Function in a fast-paced, retail office environment
- Work extended hours; walk for extended periods
- Travel by car or plane with overnight stays
