Automation Intermediate Engineer
If you are an Automation Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson Automation Solutions, Gulf Coast Engineering and Solutions Center, has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Houston, TX location, you will work on project teams, collaborate with a multitude of diverse professionals, and apply innovative and creative ideas to solve complex problems for our clients. We provide project management, engineering and design services, and supply of control systems hardware and software for control system projects in the oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical industries.
As an intermediate engineer you will:
- Work with product technologies such as DeltaV, DeltaV SIS, AMS, 3rd Party devices and interfaces, networking, cybersecurity, and instrumentation
- Write functional design specifications
- Define control strategies and configure DeltaV control systems from Control Narratives and P&IDs, using IEC 61131 Function Blocks, Structured Text, and Sequential Function Charts
- Utilize Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and instrument databases to perform I/O assignments, generate control system specifications and develop system architectures of varied complexity with minimal assistance.
- Participate in the field survey of existing instrumentation/electrical equipment, instrument wiring, cable/conduit routing, control rooms, rack rooms and any related control systems/electrical items and reconciliation of field survey data.
- Assist with the design of cabinet/panel layout drawings, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, power/grounding design, and other related control system/electrical drawings
- Assist with the software/hardware testing of Control Systems; assist with loop checks in the field, assist with cutover of existing instrumentation to new Control Systems.
- Assist with Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and start-up or cutover at customer plant sites

Required education, experience & skills:
- BS Engineering or Engineering Technology degree
- 6+ years of process automation work associated with instrumentation and control systems/DCS/PLCs for projects in Refining, Petrochemical or Specialty Chemicals sites
- Experience engineering, implementing, and managing automation projects at client sites
- Experience implementing grassroots and/or control system modernization projects
- Knowledge and application of Industry Codes and Standards (e.g. ISA, NEC).
- Experience designing and implementing standard or complex engineering solutions, (i.e. Engineering, Infrastructure, Database Configuration, Construction) to completion
- Must be comfortable working with end users and/or EPCs
- Up to 30% domestic travel
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred education, experience & skills:
- Field walk-down experience in Refinery and Petrochemical plants
- Experience in hot/cold cutover planning and/or implementation
- Experience with hands-on configuration on a control system
- Experience with working on FEED studies and ability to provide manhour estimates based on these studies
- Knowledge of Microsoft networking and/or Cisco networks.
- Experience with instrumentation including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, on-off valves
