Duration: 6 months (900 total hours; 37.5 hrs/week, 7.5 hrs/day )

Overview

Small, high-impact accounting team supporting a national commercial equipment finance business is adding a contingent Accounting Operations Specialist to run day-to-day loan accounting and cash application . You will allocate incoming cash in an in-house loan system , activate/process new deals daily, post entries to the general ledger , perform daily reconciliations (loan system GL bank), and handle printing/mailing invoices and printing checks with remote deposit . The role is fully onsite in Houston and operates with tight daily deadlines and strong control discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Cash application: Apply incoming cash to the correct loans in the internal loan system each day.
• Deal activation/processing: Set up and activate new deals on a daily cadence.
• GL postings: Book entries from the loan system into the general ledger accurately and on time.
• Reconciliations: Perform daily reconciliations across loan system, GL, and bank activity; research and clear variances.
• Invoice & check ops: Physically print/mail invoices ; print customer checks and complete remote deposits per procedure.
• Month-end support: Contribute to close tasks (variance analysis, workpapers, integrity tests) and maintain audit-ready documentation .
• Process discipline: Follow SOPs and control standards; suggest improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Team collaboration: Communicate status/issues promptly; assist with ad-hoc tasks in a lean environment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree required (Accounting/Finance/Business preferred).
• Banking/Financial Services background required ; 5+ years relevant experience strongly preferred (commercial lending/lease servicing or similar high-volume ops).
• Excel proficiency: Pivot tables and common functions (SUM/IF/LOOKUPs); comfortable with exported data and light cleanup.
• Operational accounting: Hands-on experience with cash application, GL postings, and daily reconciliations; deadline discipline and accuracy.
• Works lean: Handles assignments with minimal supervision and strong ownership; quick learner on proprietary systems/processes.
• Onsite availability: Five days/week in the Houston Galleria office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in commercial equipment finance operations.
• Familiarity with remote deposit capture and invoice-to-cash workflows.
• Background producing audit-ready evidence and operating under GAAP and bank control standards.
