Preschool Camp Counselor ( Plano )

At the Y, we support youth development and create meaningful opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive. The YMCA is seeking Part-Time Preschool Camp Counselors who are passionate about working with preschool-age children using positive behavior guidance in an active early learning environment. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging young children through fun, developmentally appropriate activities while supporting a safe and nurturing setting.

Principal Activities & Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and implementing daily activities for children ages 2–5 years in an active preschool environment.

• Develop and lead fun small-group activities, including music, games, arts and crafts, and movement .
  
• Follow the curriculum provided by the branch and adhere to DFPS Minimum Standards and YMCA policies.
  
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times , including following emergency procedures as needed.
  
• Assist with daily classroom setup and cleanup .
  
• Communicate positively and effectively with children, parents, staff, and volunteers .
  
• Chaperone and assist with class field trips .
  
• Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings
  
• Follow YMCA policies related to dress code, professionalism, and appropriate conduct .
  

• Support day-to-day operations of the preschool program in alignment with YMCA Minimum Standards.

Requirements

Requirements & Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older .

• High School Diploma or GED required .
  
• Ability to inspire, motivate, and positively impact children and others through actions and communication.
  
• Demonstrates empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm and objective under pressure.
  
• Reliable, dependable, and open to feedback and coaching.
  
• Must pass a criminal background check .
  

• Strong understanding of the YMCA mission and a desire to deliver a high-quality preschool summer program.

• Ability to learn and comply with state licensing requirements and center policies

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time .

• Ability to move easily between sitting and standing .
  

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds .
