The Vice President of Risk Management serves as the senior leader responsible for protecting the company’s people, assets, and reputation. This role oversees the development and execution of an enterprise-wide risk management framework addressing operational, safety, financial, compliance, and reputational risks across a diverse portfolio of venues and live events. The VP acts as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and the Board, ensuring the organization is resilient and prepared for both anticipated and emerging risks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management strategy aligned with business objectives and operational standards.
- Partner with executive and regional leaders to embed risk awareness into planning and decision-making.
- Advise senior leadership on risk trends, emerging threats, and mitigation priorities.
Event & Operational Risk
- Oversee risk assessments for venues and live events, including concerts, festivals, and large-scale productions.
- Partner with internal security teams to ensure effective crowd management, security, and emergency response protocols.
- Manage risks related to weather, staging, talent, pyrotechnics, and other operational factors.
Insurance & Contractual Risk
- Design and manage global insurance programs covering liability, event cancellation, property, and workers’ compensation.
- Negotiate terms and coverage with brokers and underwriters.
- Review contracts to ensure appropriate indemnification and insurance provisions.
Claims Oversight
- Lead the claims management process, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and resolution.
- Collaborate with insurers, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders to ensure fair outcomes.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations impacting event operations.
- Monitor evolving safety and risk standards and implement necessary policy updates.
Enterprise Risk Management
- Maintain and enhance the enterprise risk management (ERM) framework.
- Partner with finance, legal, and operations to align risk mitigation with strategic initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages a team of risk and safety professionals, including hiring, training, performance management, and professional development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Safety Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Professional certifications such as ARM, CRM, FRM, CPCU, or CEM strongly preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive risk management leadership, including 5+ years in live events, sports, or entertainment.
- Proven experience designing insurance programs, reviewing contracts, and managing large-scale incident response.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of crowd safety, event operations, and global compliance requirements.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to make sound, data-driven decisions under pressure.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in complex, high-profile environments.
