Mechanic
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and operate Natural Gas Amine Treating units, TEG Dehydration plants, Thermal Oxidizers, Generators, and associated mechanical and process equipment within the assigned primary operating area centered around Laredo, Texas.
- Perform mechanical maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of plant and field equipment including generators, pumps, motors, cooling fans, pressure control devices, valves, heaters, process controls, and related oilfield mechanical systems.
- Support safe, reliable, and cost effective operation of treating and dehydration facilities by ensuring all mechanical systems are functioning within designated parameters.
- Secondary responsibilities may include supporting operations in other Kinder Morgan Treating regions and external customer locations, which may require periodic or extended overnight travel.
- Provide mechanical expertise during plant operations, maintenance turnaround work, project activities, and field callouts, including responding to after hours or weekend emergencies as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Operate Natural Gas Amine Treating systems, TEG dehydration units, Thermal Oxidizers, generators, motors, cooling equipment, pumps, seals, valves, and related process equipment.
- Monitor and control process variables, including pressure, temperature, and flow rates, to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation.
- Start, stop, and operate pumps, motors, and associated equipment to maintain designated operating parameters.
- Perform routine operational maintenance and repairs on pumps, valves, heaters, process controls, and related oilfield equipment.
- Ensure cost effective and reliable operation of all gas processing units and associated systems.
- Monitor product quality to ensure specifications are met; take corrective action when product is out of specification.
- Maintain effective communication with company control centers, operational teams, business units, customers, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee construction, maintenance, or operational activities performed by third party contractors to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Identify, report, and correct potential safety, environmental, and operational hazards.
- Complete required documentation including but not limited to JSAs, Hot Work permits, LOTO procedures, operational logs, and other regulatory or company records.
- Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to safety; actively participate in company safety programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Crew Lead.
- Operate company vehicles safely both on facility grounds and on public roads, in accordance with all company driver policies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
- Basic computer skills.
- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment and process systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, follow instructions from Supervisor, or Crew Lead, and maintain strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to participate in after-hours emergency response; must carry a company provided mobile phone when required.
- 1-3 years’ experience in the mechanical field would be considered.
- Working knowledge of generator repairs, pump repairs, and electrical equipment.
- Operational knowledge of electrical meters and instruments, including ammeters and voltmeters, and mechanical tools.
- Ability to perform plant operations duties as needed and participate in area callouts when needed, including covering operations shifts.
- Experience maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment including generators, pumps, cooling fans, pressure control equipment, valves, and motors.
- Experience training others in the operations and routine maintenance of generators and plant equipment.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Company and its insurers.
- May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required.

- Ability to perform work in tight areas, elevated platforms, ladders, stairwells, and confined spaces, including kneeling and bending at the waist.
- Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. in awkward positions regularly and up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist occasionally.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
- Must be available to respond to operational emergencies outside normal working hours, including nights and weekends, as reasonably required to support 24/7 operations.
- May work in low visibility or low light environments.
- Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with minimum supervision.
- Adequate analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Customer focused.
Work Conditions:
- Ability to work in and withstand extreme weather conditions.
- Required to respond to callouts and emergencies outside normal working hours.
- May be required to carry a company provided cell phone/pager and be available during both working and non-working hours.
- Travel, including overnight stays, may be required; travel may include multiple consecutive nights at a time.
- Must live within a 60-minute response/travel time of the primary work location.
- Overtime is required as needed and should be anticipated.
- Must wear all required PPE.
- Primary area of responsibility: Treating plants near Laredo, TX
- Secondary areas of responsibility (support roles as needed): Treating operations in Texas, Southeast New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
- Ideal location: Candidate located near Laredo, TX.
- Job level will be commensurate with experience and skill set.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE ABOVE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Detailed knowledge of Amine Treating and Dehydration unit operations.
- Detailed knowledge of gas and liquid processing theories and fundamentals.
- Experience troubleshooting, adjusting, optimizing and performing minor repairs on pumps, process systems, and related equipment.
- Experience in gas processing or chemical plant operations.
