Floor Technician Lead
Primary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables:
The Floor Technician is responsible for executing a variety of floor care duties to maintain facility presentation and hygiene. This includes sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors, as well as extracting and spot-cleaning carpets. The role involves using a range of commercial cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, and extractors. The technician must follow schedules, safety standards, and instructions to ensure all surfaces are cleaned effectively. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment, restocking supplies, reporting maintenance needs, and assisting with general janitorial tasks when necessary. The technician is expected to uphold a professional demeanor while working independently or as part of a cleaning team.
Responsibilities:
· Perform floor care services including stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing, and burnishing
· Operate and maintain industrial floor care equipment and tools safely and effectively
· Clean and maintain carpeted areas through vacuuming, extraction, and spot-cleaning
· Mix and apply appropriate cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer and safety guidelines
· Follow site-specific floor maintenance schedules and scope of work
· Inspect floors for damage, wear, or stains and report any concerns to the supervisor
· Ensure workspaces are safe, tidy, and free of hazards during and after-floor care activities
· Adhere to safety procedures including the proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
· Perform general janitorial tasks as needed, including trash removal, sweeping, and restroom cleaning
· Maintain cleaning logs, service checklists, and supply inventories
· Provide excellent service and communication when interacting with clients or building occupants
Competencies/Skills:
· Proficiency with floor care equipment (buffers, scrubbers, burnishers, extractors)
· Knowledge of hard floor surfaces and carpet care methods
· Understanding of cleaning chemicals and SDS compliance
· Attention to detail and commitment to quality work
· Physical strength and stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift up to 50 lbs
· Ability to work independently and follow schedules or supervisor instructions
· Strong time management and reliability
· Safety awareness and adherence to regulations
· Flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, or on-call as required
Physical demands:
· Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
· Ability to perform repetitive tasks, manual dexterity
· Vision abilities required include close, distance and depth perception
· Lifting of 25 pounds
· Ability to walk long distance
Key working relationships:
The incumbent holds key working relationships with the:
· Janitorial Supervisor
· Operations and Custodial Teams
· Clients and Property Managers
· Safety and Quality Control Departments
Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 1+ year experience in floor care or janitorial services
- Experience of operating floor care machines required
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
- Valid driver’s license may be required based on assignment
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and nights
