Team Member
Job Overview
Sourdough & Co. is a fast-casual restaurant known for artisan sandwiches served on authentic San Francisco sourdough bread. Our Progress Ridge Townsquare restaurant is the first Portland metro location and is proudly locally owned and operated.
The Role:
We are seeking versatile, high-energy Team Members who want to be the heartbeat of our restaurant! This role is designed for dynamic individuals who thrive in a fast-paced team environment and love variety in their workday.
As a Team Member, you will become a master of all trades through full cross-training in every aspect of our operations—from delivering exceptional guest service and handling cashiering to precision food preparation and assembly line execution.
While you will learn the ins and outs of every station, you will be dynamically deployed to a designated "Home Base" station during peak rushes, allowing your unique strengths—whether in high-touch hospitality or precision culinary execution—to make the biggest possible impact for our guests and team. If you bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a team-first mindset, we are fully prepared to train you for absolute success!
- Schedule & Hours: We offer flexible scheduling structured around core operational windows (such as peak lunch rushes and weekend shifts) to accommodate school, family, or personal commitments.
- Growth & Development Potential: We are deeply committed to providing ongoing training and continuous opportunities for professional growth. Exceptional Team Members who master our operations, demonstrate strong leadership, and bring a team-first attitude will find clear pathways to take on expanded responsibilities as our business grows.
What We Offer:
- Competitive Compensation: $17.00 – $18.50 per hour (DOE) plus tips!
- Free Shift Meals: Enjoy a complimentary meal on us during your shift.
- Lifestyle-Friendly Operating Hours: Monday–Saturday 11:00 am–8:00 pm, Sunday 11:00 am–6:00 pm. (Note: hours subject to change based on business needs).
- Supportive & Growth-Oriented Culture: We value attitude and developing skills that extend far beyond the kitchen. We believe accountability goes both ways—ownership is fully committed to upholding the same high standards of respect, integrity, and community that we ask of our team.
What You’ll Do
- Guest Experience & Hospitality: Act as the welcoming face of our restaurant—greeting guests with genuine warmth, guiding them through our menu, and processing orders and payments accurately to ensure a flawless first impression.
- Station Mastery & Team Flexing: Learn the ins and outs of our core operational stations (including sandwich assembly, salad/flatbread prep, and the back bar/meat station), stepping in seamlessly wherever the team needs you most during peak rushes.
- Food Prep & Precision Execution: Prepare all menu items and handle ingredient prep accurately and efficiently, ensuring our high standards for flavor, presentation, and quality are met every time.
- Proactive Station Ownership: Keep your workstation pristine, fully stocked, and organized with the ingredients, packaging, and supplies needed to keep service running smoothly.
- Safety & Sanitation Standards: Maintain strict adherence to food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation protocols across the kitchen, assembly line, and guest dining areas to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
- Operational Routines: Execute standard opening, closing, and shift-change checklists with care, setting the next shift up for absolute success.
Other Responsibilities:
- Professional Representation: Represent the restaurant with professionalism and positivity at all times, acting as a welcoming ambassador of our brand to teammates, guests, and vendors.
- Proactive Communication: Maintain open lines of communication by promptly notifying Management of any guest feedback, food safety concerns, inventory shortages, or immediate restaurant needs.
- Training & Meeting Engagement: Actively participate in all scheduled team trainings, continuous learning opportunities, and staff meetings.
- Role Flexibility: Demonstrate a team-first mindset by performing other duties and operational tasks as assigned by Management to support the success of the restaurant.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Compliance & Age Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be at least 18 years of age to safely operate all kitchen machinery and satisfy state legal regulations for restaurant operations and supervisory oversight.
- Experience: Previous restaurant, hospitality, or customer-facing service experience is preferred but not required. We are fully prepared to train individuals with the right attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid, active Food Handlers Card prior to the first day of work.
- Schedule Flexibility: Must have flexible availability to work a combination of shifts, including peak lunch rushes, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business volume dictates. Reliable attendance and punctual arrival for all scheduled shifts are essential.
Core Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Positive & Collaborative Attitude: Brings a cooperative, team-first mindset to every shift; demonstrates a positive attitude toward work assignments, team collaboration, and restaurant goals.
- Coachability & Direction: Ability to actively participate in training, quickly master new operational skills, and constructively receive feedback. Proven ability to take direction from Management and strictly follow all restaurant policies and procedures.
- Effective Communication: Ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively with guests, team members, and management under fast-paced conditions.
- Safety & Compliance Focus: Knowledge of or ability to learn and strictly follow safe food-handling procedures, health department protocols, and OSHA safety standards at all times.
- Agility & Work Efficiency: Ability to switch priorities smoothly as guest volume dictates, maintaining a calm, efficient, and professional demeanor in a high-energy, fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Technology Proficiency: Ability to comfortably and effectively utilize restaurant technology tools, including Point of Sale (POS) systems, digital scheduling applications, and other operational platforms.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Physical Mobility & Stamina: Requires continuous mobility to move throughout the facility and stand or walk for extended periods across a shift. Frequent physical movement is necessary, including bending, reaching, stooping, and walking about the restaurant to assist guests, coordinate with teammates, and manage operations.
- Lifting Demands: Must be able to regularly lift, move, and/or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 pounds (such as when receiving inventory, restocking heavy food supplies, or organizing storage areas).
- Pace & Environment: Work is performed primarily in a high-energy, fast-paced indoor restaurant environment. The role is heavily oriented toward guest service and is subject to frequent work interruptions.
- Mental Resilience: Must be able to work calmly, effectively, and professionally under the pressure of continual guest and staff interactions, with a consistent expectation to maintain fast order turnaround times while ensuring high food quality, operational standards, and order accuracy.
- Sensory Requirements: Continuous talking, hearing, and near-vision processing are required to safely communicate with guests, direct team members, monitor kitchen safety, and utilize restaurant technology platforms.
