Blood Donor Technician - Mobile Blood Drives
- Performs pre-donation screening, venipuncture, and post venipuncture care of donors in accordance with policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Remains knowledgeable of all policies, procedures and protocols.
- Complies with existing policies, procedures and protocols including requirements as specified in the Safety Program.
- Reports any requested donor results, reactions, and adverse events according to SOP.
- Ensures quality control data is accurate, complete, and documented accordingly.
- Adheres to all safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintains upkeep of assigned departmental equipment.
- Assists with the loading, unloading, set-up, and tear-down of equipment at mobile donor collection locations.
- Accurately and legibly completes donor records in a timely manner.
- Identifies and addresses non-routine situations arising during phlebotomy procedures and reports them to appropriate leadership.
- Maintains an acceptable level of proficiency and competency.
- Assists other team members in maintaining smooth workflow and processes.
- Actively recruits donors at donor sites.
Manages all customer service interactions with diplomacy, actively facilitating resolutions to problems and addressing the needs of clients both internal and external.
- Demonstrates strong level of customer service skills and customer service focus.
- Embraces the roles and responsibilities of the Customer Service Program.
- Ensures all encounters, verbal, written and silent (body language), with internal and external customers are professional and respectful.
Participates in procedures, policies and tools to enhance donor environment functioning while ensuring a positive experience for all involved.
- Utilizes the ten-foot rule, greeting everyone in a professional and respectful manner.
- Provides feedback when deficiencies or discrepancies in process performance are observed. Offers recommendations for process improvement.
- Ensures individual competency requirements are maintained including required licensures and continuing education.
Other duties as assigned Education Required:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred:
• Associate's Degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician Program OR
• Completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program Work Experience Required:
• Completion of a MD Anderson phlebotomy internship or six months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory • With preferred education, only three months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory required Licenses and Certifications Required:
• TDL - Texas Drivers License: Class A, B, or C valid Texas driver's license depending on the type and weight of vehicle to be operated and number of passengers to be carried (within 90 Days)
• Good driving record as verified with the Texas Department of Transportation (Upon Hire) Preferred (upon hire):
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) AND
• CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR) OR
• DPT-ASCP - Donor Phlebotomy Technician: Donor Phlebotomy certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR) OR
• American Certification Agency (ACA) OR
