Community Engineer - Remote

Are you passionate about open-source software, Linux, and building thriving communities? We're looking for a Community Engineer to support and empower a global community, ensuring its success and sustainability.

As a Community Engineer, you'll play a vital role in enabling community leaders and participants to collaborate effectively on innovative projects. You won't just facilitate processes — you'll actively encourage the creation of new technical initiatives while integrating community efforts with broader strategic goals.

If you're technically skilled with Linux and have a knack for engaging with developers, solving complex problems, and nurturing contributions, this role is perfect for you.

What You'll Do
Collaborate with a distributed team to address community challenges and opportunities.
Write high-quality content (blogs, social media posts, etc.) to highlight community initiatives, events, and accomplishments.
Engage with the community through platforms like IRC, social media, AskUbuntu, and conferences.
Represent the community and the broader open-source ecosystem at speaking engagements, conferences, and expos.
Provide technical support and guidance to volunteer developers, ensuring their tools and contributions are successful.
Support the creation and growth of new technical projects that enhance the community's experience.
Travel globally for team events, conferences, and other engagements (2-4 weeks annually, with opportunities for more).
What We're Looking For
We're seeking candidates who are:

Passionate about technology and excited to work with brilliant people in a collaborative environment.
Curious, flexible, and accountable, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Experienced in open-source projects and familiar with developer tools.
Proficient in two or more of the following: Ubuntu Linux, DevOps, software development, testing and QA, package management, or container technology.
Comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership of objectives, and thriving in a fast-paced environment.
Experienced working with open-source communities and understanding the workflows of volunteer contributors.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Community management or developer advocacy experience.
Software development background or contributions to open-source projects.
Active contributions to the Ubuntu community or similar initiatives.
