Position Summary

The Credit Resolution Manager is responsible for preserving the credit union’s assets through the management of delinquent accounts, recovery of loan payments or collateral, and oversight of the collections team. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, oversees legal and bankruptcy processes, and implements department-wide strategies to optimize recovery efforts. The manager also develops staff, maintains reporting systems, and enhances operational procedures in line with industry best practices.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Legal & Regulatory Compliance and Process Management (40%)

  • Stay updated on federal and state laws related to debt collection and bankruptcy.

  • Implement policy and procedural changes; ensure staff are trained on legal updates.

  • Maintain compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act and timely dispute resolution.

  • Oversee compliance with FDCPA and Texas Debt Collection Law.

  • Audit accounts and monitor calls for legal compliance.

  • Maintain legal documentation and collaborate with attorneys.

  • Analyze and report departmental data to executive leadership and board.

  • Identify and implement process improvements and staff development strategies.

  • Design and assess strategies for successful debt collection.

  • Negotiate and authorize payment arrangements and settlements.

Staff Leadership and Operational Oversight (30%)

  • Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise Collection staff.

  • Conduct performance reviews and adjust workloads to meet department needs.

  • Review and approve collection strategies.

  • Set and monitor team goals aligned with credit union objectives.

  • Handle delinquent member accounts, including internal accounts.

Collateral and Asset Recovery (15%)

  • Manage repossessed assets and assess repair or investment needs.

  • Evaluate borrower financial status; initiate repossession if necessary.

Legal Proceedings and Risk Support (10%)

  • Testify in legal cases as required.

  • Support the Risk Department with fraud-related or special accounts.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Performance Measurements

  1. Maintain delinquent and charged-off account levels within targets.

  2. Handle all data and operations with confidentiality.

  3. Exhibit a member-focused attitude while safeguarding credit union assets.

  4. Maximize recovery from delinquent and charged-off accounts.

  5. Demonstrate effective problem-solving and solution development.

  6. Ensure strong attention to detail across all work functions.

  7. Cultivate a high-performing and well-trained collections team.

  8. Ensure all activities follow legal and internal policy guidelines.

  9. Provide timely updates to leadership on department operations.

  10. Demonstrate and maintain compliance with BSA/AML, OFAC, CIP, and MDD regulations through annual training and practice.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 3–5 years of related experience in collections or credit resolution.

Education

One of the following:

  • Associate’s degree

  • Completion of a specialized business or trade school program

  • Completion of in-depth in-house training/apprenticeship

  • Equivalent professional experience

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Frequent contact with internal and external stakeholders to exchange information and build relationships.

Work Environment
