Staff Accountant

Description St. Croix Health is looking for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Staff Accountant to join our team!

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial reports, gathering and analyzing information, providing audit and budget support and providing or supporting general accounting functions of the Finance department. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Monthly close duties, required analysis, and annual duties

• Prepare monthly journal entries ensuring accuracy and reasonableness in estimates
• Gather and analyze information from other departments
• Create reports and disseminate to appropriate parties
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts
• Assist with and prepares audit, budget and cost report
• Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
• Complies with all federal, state and accrediting regulatory standards

2. Service Contract duties

• Process standard purchase requests
• Maintain master spreadsheet of all organization contracts
• Manage contract renewals

3. Fixed Asset duties

• Reconcile monthly fixed asset and Construction In Progress (CIP) balance sheet account
• Prepare monthly journal entries for reclassifications and capitalization
• Understand capitalization versus expense theory
• Prepare year-end CIP and fixed asset reconciliations by asset life and category
• Update Asset Edge with annual additions/deletions and reconcile to the general ledger
• Perform audit of fixed assets annually

4. Non-Patient Accounts Receivable duties

• Prepare invoices and posts payments on account
• Reconcile non-patient A/R accounts to general ledger

5. Accounts Payable duties

• Enter and code invoices to Intacct accounting software
• Match supply chain invoices in Envi software system and import into Intacct; investigate and resolve discrepancies and issues
• Ensure invoices are approved and paid in a timely manner; ACH payments recorded prior to month end process
• Analyze AP data to identify potential missing invoices and Accounts Payable statistics
• Prepare monthly AP accrual entry
• Reconcile AP aging to the general ledger monthly
• Perform weekly AP vendor check run and patient refunds
• Answer and resolve vendor inquires
• Manage vendor files, including ACH payment details and W9 forms
• Process 1099s annually

6. Payroll duties

• Perform bi-weekly payroll processing for non-provider staff, semi-monthly payroll for providers
• Create and ensure proper coding of payroll import files from Paylocity to Intacct
• Create monthly Paid Time Off (PTO) liability reports and journal entries
• Reconcile vendor invoices for employee benefits
• Review and ensure proper wage and tax reporting
• Provide payroll detail reports to leaders

Requirements

Education & Licensure: 

• Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field required; or 
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred

Experience : 

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Accounting or related field preferred
• Payroll processing and payroll tax knowledge preferred
