Peer Support Specialist II Certified

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager. The Peer Specialist performs assigned peer support activities in the Reintegration Program. Specifically, this worker provides recovery-oriented peer services to adult inmates at the McLennan County Jail and in the community. These services involve utilization of the Peer Specialist’s own experiences in recovery to engage and inspire hope in working with mental health consumers and consumers who may have a substance use disorder.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Provides recovery-oriented peer services.
  • Provides coordination, facilitation, referral, advocacy, and education services.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation.
  • Assists with other duties as required or assigned.
Experience:
The Peer Specialist must have been treated in a behavioral health system for at least one (1) year and have a level of stability and recovery of a minimum of 3 years that facilitates participation in the treatment and recovery of other mental health consumers.
Education:
This position requires graduation from a standard high school or GED.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the Peer Specialist Code of Ethics (developed by Via Hope) is essential to this position, as these requirements guide all aspects of peer services.
The Peer Specialist demonstrates skills in engaging mental health consumers to participate in and take charge of their own recovery by using their own experiences in recovery to create hope and open possible recovery pathways for the consumer. The Peer Specialist is also a skilled member of the recovery team, participating in all aspects of the consumer’s recovery, and displays considerable ability to work effectively with individuals being served by the ICS program as well as staff.​
Must have and maintain a level of general physical and mental health that permits the performance of the job duties and ability to maintain regular attendance as set forth in center policies and procedures.
Must be able to perform unaided or with reasonable accommodation, the essential tasks, on the jobs necessary for CPR, First Aid and PMAB certification
Basic computer skills is required. Must be able to locally travel 35% of the time. Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Must be able to assist with daily living skills and must have rehabilitation/skills training.

Hours: 8AM-5PM M-F can be flexible

Salary: $20,800 Annually $10.0000 Hourly
