Development and Membership Coordinator

The Old Jail Art Center in Albany, TX is seeking a full time DEVELOPMENT AND MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR to work collaboratively with the Executive Director and staff in researching, writing and submitting grants; developing and maintaining donors and membership; and enhancing fundraising initiatives.

A successful candidate should possess knowledge and a proven track record in non-profit fundraising and membership development with an interest in visual arts and education with experience managing complex projects with competing deadlines. Self-motivated with the ability to work successfully with small staff and committees in a fast-paced and changing environment is essential.

Classification: Full-time

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000(commensurate with experience)

Duties and Responsibilities:

● to identify new potential grants and funding

● Work with Executive Director and departments to identify and pursue new funding opportunities and approaches

● Collaborate with Executive Director in the grant composition, submission, tracking, and reports

● Coordinate with Executive Director on fundraising and membership campaigns

● Management of Development and Membership committees and reports for Board of Trustees

● Administer correspondence with individual donors and provides statistical reports on developmental activities

● Manage and utilize Donor/Membership Database to record/track donors and gifts, membership, acknowledgement letters, fundraisers, and appeals

● Prepare mailing list for events and fundraisers

● Maximize digital communication and social media platforms for fundraising, events,and facilitation

● Coordinate fundraising activities and adult events, serving as staff liaison on Events Committee

● Follow institutional procedures through vendor selection and negotiation for fundraising and non-fundraising events

● Receive and process all incoming revenue and donations

● Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive museum materials

● Identify and implement ideas for most efficient use of resources

● Other duties as required or assigned

General Personnel:

● Maintain a professional, respectful, and service-oriented focus when interacting with museum staff, visitors, donors, and the public

● Perform all duties in a manner that promotes public confidence in the museum and its employees and in accordance with ethical standards, policies, and procedures

● Available for occasional evening and/or weekend work at special events and programs

● Must pass background and drug screens

Minimum Qualifications:

● College degree in a related field, such as Museum Studies, Fundraising, or Business preferred

● Experience in fundraising, grant writing and management, direct solicitation, special events management, donor and community relations

● Proficiency in utilizing Donor/Membership database and Microsoft Word/Excel

● Proficiency with digital marketing tools, i.e., social media platforms, Constant Contact (or equivalent e-news vehicle)

● Strong writing, oral communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

● Familiarity with basic graphic design software (Adobe)

● Experience managing, supervising, and evaluating committees

● Experience with budgeting and project reporting

About the OJAC:

The Old Jail Art Center (OJAC) began in 1980 with four small galleries in what was originally the first permanent jail built in the county. The OJAC now comprises 17,000 square feet and is a widely acclaimed fine art museum with robust exhibition and education programming. The permanent collection currently contains over 2,300 works of art ranging from Ancient Americas, Chinese tomb figures, French Impressionist paintings to modern and contemporary paintings, drawings and sculpture. The museum's Robert E. Nail Jr. Archives focuses on the preservation of collection artists’ ephemera and regional history. The museum’s standards of excellence in operations and programming have been recognized by the American Alliance of Museums through its accreditation since 1989. The OJAC is funded by an endowment, grants, and generous individual support.

The mission of the OJAC is to broaden engagement with visual art and culture through exhibitions, education, and preservation. The OJAC is recognized as a unique contributor to the global visual art community by sharing collections and resources, promoting the work of visual artists, expanding audience reach and diversity, and encouraging creative initiatives in the community.

The OJAC is located in Albany, Texas, a small but vibrant community in west-central Texas two hours west of Fort Worth, 30 miles from Abilene, and six hours from Marfa. Historically, the area contained military outposts and was at the cross-roads of numerous cattle trails. Today, Albany (pop. 1,800) serves as a cultural hub providing visual and performing arts to the region.
