Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Data at Scale)

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build and operate backend systems that run at serious scale. This role is for someone who cares about performance, reliability, and designing systems that can handle large volumes of data without falling over.

You’ll be working with tens of billions of records, including dark web intelligence, to help protect organizations from stolen credentials, malware, and compromised devices. The systems you build will be core to our platform and used every day by security teams that depend on speed, accuracy, and reliability.

This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX, with flexibility to work remotely while still spending time collaborating in person with the team.

What You'll Do:

• Building and maintaining high performance APIs and backend services used at scale


• Designing background services and data processing workflows that operate over very large datasets


• Working closely with data engineers and data scientists who are building our platform on AWS and Databricks


• Making practical architecture decisions around performance, cost, and reliability


• Profiling and tuning systems to improve throughput, latency, and overall stability


• Helping shape and evolve API standards and best practices across the platform


• Using modern, AI-forward development tools to move faster and write better software

Requirements:

• Core Experience




• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus


• Experience building and running production systems at scale


• Strong experience in Python, Go, or Java. Experience in more than one is a plus


• Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and service-oriented architectures


• Experience working with large datasets and high throughput systems


• Data and Infrastructure




• Experience with one or more of the following databases:




• PostgreSQL


• DynamoDB


• Elasticsearch


• Redis


• MongoDB


• Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based architectures


• Experience working with or alongside data platforms such as Databricks or Spark


• Performance and Reliability




• Experience with API gateways, load balancing, and traffic management


• Comfortable with performance profiling, load testing, and capacity planning


• Able to debug and resolve bottlenecks across services, databases, and infrastructure


• How You Work




• Comfortable operating with incomplete or evolving product requirements


• Able to make good tradeoffs when there is no perfect answer


• Communicates clearly with engineers, data teams, and product partners


• Takes ownership and cares about long-term maintainability

Nice to Have:

• Experience working on large scale products or at well known technology companies


• Background in security, identity, fraud, or threat intelligence


• Experience working with unstructured or dark web data


• Strong technical opinions that are open to discussion
