Assistant Chief Engineer

MalaceHR is currently seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Chief Engineer to support the operations of a mission-critical data center facility in Abilene, TX. This role is essential to maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of critical infrastructure systems. You’ll partner closely with the Chief Engineer to lead technical teams, maintain operational continuity, and deliver exceptional service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with daily management of data center operations and facility maintenance.

• Supervise and support a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors to meet performance targets.

• Monitor and analyze critical systems including power, cooling, and network infrastructure.

• Support the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs.

• Ensure all operations comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

• Participate in infrastructure upgrades and capacity planning initiatives.

• Respond to emergency situations and manage critical incidents with urgency and precision.

• Prepare reports, technical documentation, and client presentations as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in data center operations or mission-critical facilities

• Strong technical knowledge of power distribution , HVAC systems , and network architecture

• Familiarity with standards such as ASHRAE, TIA , and Uptime Institute guidelines

• Proven leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional technical teams

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues quickly

• Proficient in facility management tools and building automation systems

• Valid certification in a relevant area (e.g., CDCP, DCPRO , or equivalent)

Preferred:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license

• Experience leading or supporting energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives

• Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., PMP or Agile)

• Experience in multi-site or large-scale data center environments
