Industrial maintenance technician - Piping and Utilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable Mechanical Technician with hands-on experience in industrial piping systems, welding, structural fitting, and minor civil work. This position requires working in confined spaces such as underground vaults to perform preventive maintenance services. The ideal candidate will also possess a working knowledge of basic electrical systems, be capable of interpreting technical documents, and demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, repair, and maintain carbon steel piping systems, including large bore piping and valves.

• Perform SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) on piping, structural supports, and components.

• Execute minor civil and carpentry work including trenching, forming, and basic framing.

• Conduct structural fitting work involving layout, alignment, and securing of steel structures.

• Safely enter and work in confined underground vaults to conduct PM (preventive maintenance) services.

• Operate with awareness of underground utilities and steam systems.

• Work with 480V and 110V electrical systems when required (basic troubleshooting/understanding ideal).

• Read and interpret technical drawings, safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

• Complete routine reports and documentation accurately and timely.

• Maintain strong working relationships with contractors, field engineers, and the general public.

• Follow all safety protocols, especially while working in hazardous or confined areas.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in piping, welding, or utility-related mechanical work; or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.

• Knowledge of OSHA confined space entry protocols is a strong plus.

• Strong field communication, organization, and documentation skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent use of hands for handling tools, equipment, and materials.

• Must regularly stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

• Occasional walking, sitting, talking, and hearing as part of daily duties.

• Ability to lift and carry over 100 lbs on occasion.

• Must be comfortable working in enclosed spaces and climbing stairs or ladders.

• Visual acuity requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
