About the College The Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE, ) serves approximately 5125 undergraduate and 1050 graduate students, supported by 245 faculty and instructors. The college had 856 BS, 580 MS and 84 PhD graduates in the 2024-25 fiscal year. All incoming first year students are enrolled into a common foundational curriculum for all undergraduate programs. Foundational students declare a program of choice and can move into upper division after completing the foundational classes with a TTU GPA of minimum of 2.5 TTU GPA or higher. The WCOE consists of the Departments of Chemical Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Petroleum Engineering. All BS programs and the Environmental Engineering Master's program are ABET accredited. All departments have Master's and PhD programs. In 2024, the college had approximately $23 million in federal research expenditures, contributing to a total research expenditure of $49 million in the college. About the Department/School/Area The CECE Department is home to 35 tenure-track/tenured and research faculty, including two National Academy of Engineering (NAE) members. Nearly 25 percent of the faculty are women and minorities. Seven new faculty have been hired in the last three years. Department faculty's research activity spans regional, national and international research, with active sponsored research valued approximately at 10.5 million dollars per year in the period. Citations of faculty's published work have doubled in the same period, with a majority of faculty publications occurring with supervised students as lead authors in Tier-1 journals. Additional information about the department is available at The department awards bachelor's degrees in Civil Engineering (BSCE), Construction Engineering (BSConE), master's and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering, as well as a five-year professional Master of Environmental Engineering (MEnvE) degree. In the year, the department enrolled 350+ civil, construction, and environmental engineering undergraduate majors; and 150+ graduate students with a 50-50 MS-PhD distributional split. Department faculty advised 166 undergraduate degrees, 42 Master's degrees and 10 PhD degrees to completion in . The CECE Department has also been recently gifted with a multi-million dollar endowment to re-establish the Construction Engineering Technology program and has already made some exciting steps forward. Major/Essential Functions At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program. In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. The Coordinator will also be responsible for guiding and advancing the Construction Engineering Technology program in connection with the recently established Bick endowment, ensuring that the gift is used to enhance student opportunities, industry engagement, and program growth. Among other duties, the Coordinator will:
- Manage and strategically leverage program resources, including the recent $5 million endowment from John and Paige Bick dedicated to strengthening the Construction Engineering Technology program.
- Provide academic leadership for the Construction Engineering Technology program.
- Ensure and maintain ACCE and ETAC accreditation compliance.
- Recruit, hire, and mentor program faculty and staff.
- Teach undergraduate courses in construction engineering technology and related areas.
- Advise and support students in academic and career development.
- Foster strong connections with industry partners to support student success and program growth.
- Oversee program administration, including curriculum development and continuous improvement. Organization Texas Tech University Faculty Qualifications
- Master's degree in construction management, construction engineering technology, construction engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive industry experience in construction engineering or a related field, with a proven track record of professional achievement (at least 5 years).
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring, preferably at the undergraduate or graduate level (at least 5 years).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and industry partners.This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.
