Engineering Manager, Refrigeration Department

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our refrigeration design engineering team in San Antonio, TX. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in refrigeration and control systems, leadership ability to guide a team of engineers, and client-facing skills to ensure projects are delivered with quality, innovation, and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of refrigeration design engineers, setting priorities, assigning workloads, and fostering professional growth.

  • Oversee refrigeration system design activities, ensuring engineering quality, code compliance, and adherence to best practices.

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in commercial and industrial refrigeration, including low- and ultra-low GWP systems.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and contractors; represent MalaceHR in technical project meetings.

  • Prepare project budgets, schedules, and resource forecasts; communicate updates to senior management.

  • Participate in conceptual design, prepare detailed engineering drawings (AutoCAD/Revit), and review constructability of design packages.

  • Conduct site visits to verify compliance with design documents, troubleshoot issues, and support construction activities.

  • Collaborate across disciplines and departments to drive innovation and project success.

  • Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities with existing and prospective clients.

  • Ensure deliverables meet customer quality standards and are completed in a cost-effective and timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (other engineering or construction backgrounds considered with relevant experience).

  • 10+ years of professional experience in commercial/industrial refrigeration system design.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.

  • Previous staff management and leadership experience required.

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics and refrigeration cycles.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required; Revit strongly preferred.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all organizational levels and with clients/vendors.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).

  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
