Staff Software Engineer
Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our organization as a Staff Software Engineer!
About the role
The Staff Software Engineer I solves the most complex business challenges by coordinating the delivery of quality solutions from teams within the portfolio. They will be responsible for the technical direction, design and implementation of solutions at the portfolio level. Coach and mentor senior engineers across portfolio.
What you’ll do in this role:
- Develop high quality, performant code, using the required programming languages and tools while following team standards.
- Collaborate, participate in and approve code reviews.
- Define code versioning strategies and policies.
- Coordinate code performance improvements.
- Analyze system performance metrics, find inefficiencies and opportunities for performance optimization.
- Lead all aspects of creation and execution of testing plan.
- Responsible for defining team automated build standards.
- Oversee root cause analysis activities for production issues.
- Work with team to accurately develop and test software systems, according to design.
- Participate in design reviews.
- Ability to implement based on an existing design.
- Assist with implementation of a new solution, feature, capability, or practice.
- Coach and mentor senior engineers across portfolio.
- Research and champion innovative solutions, features, capabilities, and practices.

Compensation
Salary Range: $137,500 - $229,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program.
Who you are
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field, OR relevant accredited technical certification, OR equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency equivalent to at least 9 years of combined experience in multiple of the following technology domains: Cloud (AWS, serverless, containers, infrastructure as code, cloud computing services), Python, JavaScript, Database (SQL, DynamoDB). Thought leader for testing patterns and methodologies.
