As we continue to expand, we are looking for a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team and maintain our fleet of tow trucks to the highest standards. Job Description:
A Diesel Mechanic working for Quantum Towing and Recovery is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the diesel engines and other mechanical systems of our tow trucks. This includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, replacing worn parts, and ensuring that all vehicles are operating safely and efficiently. You'll work on complex systems such as hydraulics, braking systems, and electrical components specific to towing operations. Key Responsibilities: Diagnosis and Repair:
- Identify issues with diesel engines using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions related to engine performance, electrical systems, hydraulics, and transmission.
- Disassemble and reassemble engine components to repair or replace damaged parts.
- Perform major repairs like overhauling engines, replacing pistons, and adjusting valves.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on tow trucks, including oil changes, fluid level checks, and battery inspections.
- Inspect brakes, steering, suspension, and other critical safety systems for wear and tear.
- Perform pre-shift inspections to ensure tow trucks are roadworthy.
- Repair and maintain hydraulic systems used for lifting and securing towed vehicles.
- Adjust and repair winch mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues related to towing lights and auxiliary equipment.
- Maintain detailed repair records and parts inventory.
- Communicate effectively with tow truck operators regarding vehicle issues and repair status.
- Collaborate with other mechanics and service technicians.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of diesel engine mechanics, including fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical circuits.
- Diagnostic Skills: Ability to interpret diagnostic codes and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
- Hand Tools and Equipment Proficiency: Familiarity with a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment used for diesel engine repair.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift heavy parts, work in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop effective repair solutions.
- Diesel mechanic certification or experience.
- Clean driving record (no tickets or accidents in the past 3 years).
- Texas Drivers License (Required).
- Prior automotive repair or diesel mechanic experience required.
- Subject to background check and drug test.
- Must be on call rotating weekends or as needed.
- Domestic vehicle knowledge highly preferred.
