Transformer Electrical Engineer
MINIMUM 5 YEARS OF TRANSFORMER OR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE
Connect Staffing is looking for a dedicated Transformer Electrical Engineer to join a leading solar distribution company in North Houston!
Schedule: Hybrid – Houston, TX (up to 50% travel required)
Requirements for Transformer Electrical Engineer:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience working with MV/LV transformers in testing, repair, design, or field service environments.
• Strong knowledge of transformer construction, insulation systems, vector groups, impedance, and cooling methods.
• Ability to interpret schematics, winding diagrams, material specifications, and FAT/SAT test reports.
• Proficiency with transformer test equipment such as TTR meters, insulation testers, and winding-resistance meters.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical writing skills.
• Effective organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Familiarity with electrical safety standards, MV/LV handling practices, and safe lifting/rigging procedures.
• Self-starter mindset with initiative and accountability.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multicultural, cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities of the Transformer Electrical Engineer:
• Perform transformer inspections, diagnostic testing, and root-cause analysis on units returned to the Repair Center.
• Review drawings, BOMs, datasheets, and test reports to support accurate repair decisions and component validation.
• Develop and refine repair procedures for MV/LV transformers, including insulation assessment, material evaluation, and component replacement.
• Conduct transformer testing such as TTR, insulation resistance, winding resistance, and visual/thermal inspections.
• Collaborate with R&D and supplier engineering teams to resolve design issues, review failure trends, and improve repair quality.
• Maintain detailed repair documentation, including inspection notes, test data, images, and corrective-action summaries.
• Provide technical guidance to internal teams on transformer troubleshooting and field-related issues.
• Support warranty and RMA evaluations, and assist with improving repair tools, equipment, and safety processes.
