Hepatobiliary Transplant Physician Assistant, Surgery Non-Operative
- Provide high-level inpatient care, including daily rounding, medical management, and discharge planning for transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients.
- Manage patients in the outpatient clinic, including pre- and post-transplant evaluations, post-surgical follow-up, and hepatobiliary disease management.
- Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams; order and interpret diagnostic studies; and develop treatment plans in collaboration with fellows, residents, and attending surgeons.
- Manage immunosuppression, surgical complications, and comorbid conditions in transplant patients.
- Participate in multidisciplinary transplant selection meetings and contribute to care planning.
- Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, transplantation, medications, and follow-up care.
- Serve as a liaison between surgeons, transplant coordinators, consulting services, and allied health staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage acutely ill, high-complexity patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

- Perform comprehensive assessments, including detailed histories and physical examinations of transplant patients.
- Monitor and manage complex transplant cases, including immunosuppression therapy, rejection surveillance, and post-operative complications.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests, including transplant-specific monitoring.
- Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with applicable regulations, protocols, and supervisory guidelines.
- Develop and implement evidence-based, individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team.
- Provide daily inpatient management, including rounding, care coordination, and discharge planning.
- Identify early signs of complications (e.g., infection, rejection, organ dysfunction) and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients and families on transplant care, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications.
- Coordinate care with case management, pharmacy, social work, and outpatient teams to ensure continuity.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and outcomes.
- Initiate consultations and referrals when care needs exceed scope of practice or require additional specialties.
- Participate in transplant call coverage as needed.
- Advanced knowledge of transplant medicine, including immunosuppression and post-transplant complications.
- Strong understanding of inpatient management of medically complex patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interdisciplinary collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-acuity environments.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and healthcare technology.
- Ability to develop outcomes-driven care plans and educate patients on complex regimens.
- Skill in interpreting transplant-specific laboratory and diagnostic data.
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- NCCPA certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Eligibility for prescriptive authority in the state of Texas.
- Preferred: Experience in transplant, critical care, or inpatient surgical specialties.
