The Health Care Actuarial Analyst is responsible for assisting with actuarial analysis. The incumbent will assist in coordinating with the TRS contract actuary, research health care data and perform actuarial analysis, analyze and report on financial information, and support program administration activities. This position will proactively work with the actuarial team, other Health staff, and agency employees. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Data and Actuarial Analysis

  • Supports rate development for self-funded active and retired populations
  • Assists with analysis of plan design and benefit changes on enrollment, utilization, and health care costs.
  • Assists with preparing statutory and legislative reports related to health care benefit programs.
  • Assists in developing data for reporting and analysis for all TRS health benefit programs.
  • Assists with IBNR calculations.
  • Provides peer review.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
  • Assists with financial models to evaluate the value of proposals for TRS-Care and TRS-ActiveCare services.
  • Assists with the development of fund balance projections for TRS-Care and TRS-ActiveCare.
  • Reviews and analyzes statistical and financial reports, including reports reflecting vendor credits, rebates and refunds expected and received; and reports monitoring the financial status of TRS-Care and TRS-ActiveCare.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING: Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, statistics or related field.
Required Experience
  • None.
Required Registration, Certification, Licensure
  • Completion of at least one (1) actuarial exam.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in actuarial science, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.
  • Attainment of or continued progress towards a designation of Associate of the Society of Actuaries.
  • Experience in using statistical software, tools, and databases.
  • One (1) year of experience in the healthcare industry, insurance industry or employee benefits administration, especially with large group plans.
  • Completion of 3 or more actuarial exams.
Knowledge of
  • Principles, practices, and techniques associated with actuarial services, health insurance administration, and general accounting and auditing.
Skill in
  • Completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Managing projects, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Written and verbal communications, including telephone communications and drafting and delivering complex correspondence, reports, presentations, and proposals.
  • Utilizing a personal computer and various business software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; including using spreadsheets for data analysis and presentation.
