Manager of Labor and Delivery RN

A leadership opportunity is available within a six-hospital regional healthcare system serving Corpus Christi and the surrounding Coastal Bend community. This role is based at a busy Women’s Center that includes a NICU unit and supports a graduate medical education program, making it a key hub for maternal and neonatal care in the region.

The Manager of Labor and Delivery RN is responsible for overseeing daily operations of a high-acuity obstetrics unit that includes 19 labor beds, 5 OB ED beds, and 3 surgical suites. This position leads a team of approximately 80 full-time staff, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include supervising staffing and workflow, evaluating nursing practice against established standards, and holding team members accountable for clinical outcomes and performance expectations. The role also includes rotating on-call coverage for Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Antepartum services every third week, responding to urgent calls and emergency notifications as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage daily operations of the Labor and Delivery unit.

  • Supervise and support a team of approximately 80 FTEs.

  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and workflow to ensure safe patient care delivery.

  • Monitor nursing practice and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and clinical standards.

  • Evaluate quality and patient outcomes and implement improvements as needed.

  • Provide on-call support for Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Antepartum services on a rotating schedule.

  • Respond to emergency notifications and clinical escalations as required.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent leadership experience in Labor & Delivery within the past year required.

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and clinical management skills.

  • Ability to manage high-acuity staffing and operational demands in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:

  • Leadership role with operational oversight responsibilities

  • On-call rotation: every third week (1 week duration covering L&D, Postpartum, and Antepartum)
