Staff Accountant

Job Title: Staff Accountant

Location: Southwest Houston, TX

Compensation: $60,000 – $70,000 / year

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team in Southwest Houston. This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, preparing reconciliations and journal entries, assisting with month-end close, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

• Prepare and post journal entries for month-end and year-end close activities
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset accounting
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data and supporting documentation

Reconciliations & Reporting

• Perform bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations
• Assist with preparing monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
• Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies as needed
• Support internal and external audit requests

Accounts Payable & Receivable Support

• Assist with AP and AR processes as needed, including invoice review and payment research
• Support cash application and customer/vendor account reconciliations
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting discrepancies

Month-End Close & Compliance

• Support month-end and year-end close processes
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal controls
• Maintain organized accounting records and documentation for audit purposes

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and efficiencies
• Assist with system implementations, reporting enhancements, and process documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 2+ years of general accounting or staff accounting experience preferred
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Experience with ERP or accounting systems preferred
• Strong Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
• High attention to detail and strong analytical abilities
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
